  The problem is that you are trying to defend the way the WTS trys to hide abuse as opposed to reporting it to the authorities as the first option. When the elders hear about abuse the first thing they do is call the legal department at the WTS when what they should do is call the police. The fact that they call their lawyers first tells me that thier first priority is protecting themselves instead of the victim. The elders are not trained in how to investigate such an accusation so they have no business trying to investigate to begin with. Call the authorities and let the professionals handle it.

  Regarding the shunning... this practice is just wrong. There is no defense for it... especially when it is organized shunning as in the case of the WTS.

  I remember when I was growing up I was always being told stories about how Jehovah?s Witnesses have been threatened, even with their lives, if they did not renounce their faith as Jehovah?s Witnesses. The stories would speak of how wrong it is for people to discriminate, harass and threaten people simply because their beliefs are different from the beliefs of other people. What my family and the rest of the JWs have done to me is no different. They have informed me that unless I renounce everything I believe in and join their religion, they will shun and reject me. This is wrong and it also makes them hypocrites.

  Regarding the sexual activities of an accuser... I don't care if someone is jerking off in their bedroom... that's none of my business or anyone else?s for that matter. If they are aware of abuse then they should still report it. Reasoning that a person jerks off and therefore is not qualified to report abuse is absurd.

  Perhaps Sheila will provide the information to the local police, too. It would be nice to send that information to all the congregations in your area. Wouldn't that be a nice 'witness'?
