    Six,

And Hillary, really, you call yourself a patron of the arts, but you've never heard of the Olson twins?

lol...Really, I haven't, honestly...I am seriously thinking of suing Elsewhere for bringing them to my notice.

I learned a Zen technique a few years ago that helps to screen out all squawking female singers under the age of twenty-two, all semi-brained Hollywood movie stars, especially the Scientologists, and all those cloned-up rap singers who scowl their way to the Bank. Life is good.

I recommend for a good read, "Zen and The Art Of Good Taste", by Ginger Spice. It is only contains three pages, two of them pictures, but it made a lot of money.

    Best regards - HS

Oh LORD... what have I unleashed unto the earth?!?!?!

We told you not to open Pandora's box. Did you listen?? Noooo, you had to open that box.

they're not effing porn stars, they make CHILDREN'S MOVIES.

Miss Tinker, I think you've got quite a good head on your shoulders. You and I have the same feelings about the way young women are being packaged and handed to the public as walking talking sex dolls. I recall that at 14 I began to be groped and grabbed and kissed and pursued by older men, too. I was so naive. Someone told me, "That guy made a pass at you." I said, "What's a pass?" I did know it made me sick to be grabbed and kissed by that nasty man.

If I recall correctly, the Olsons didn't make their money being sexual objects. They produced children strait to video movies. Kids loved them and bought them up. Now they are grown up and some people thought they grew up rather nicely.

That's right, their parents started them in a show biz career making a family show. They were and are actresses. This does not make them objects. They are people who are going to college in the fall.

I don't think Brad Pitt is a sex object. I'd say women tend to dream of romance with Brad Pitt the human being and not simply steamy no strings attached sex with some idol.

When I was a teenager, I used to wear low cut jeans and halter tops. I thought I looked pretty in those clothes. I really had no idea guys would be looking at me and thinking about sex. I wore the clothes because I liked them and thought they were the in thing to wear. I honestly thought that if any guys happened to notice me that they would look at me and think: "She's so pretty. I'd like her to be my girlfriend."

Just because a woman has on a mini skirt doesn't mean she's advertising for sex.

Of course, a countdown is distasteful, but its actually a joke.

With respect, as long as minors are regularly being sexually abused and expolited by people, it won't be a funny joke, at least not for me.

There is a different between finding a pretty girl of that age attractive and making jokes that hinge around whether or not it's legal to have sex with them yet. One is normal, the other somehow legitamises those who would care which side of the divide she was on...

And there's a difference between an 18 year-old 'porn star' being spoken of like she's a slut-in-waiting, and two girls who were in kiddies movies.

If an adult (and 18 is as good as it gets in coming up with a dividing line) works in erotic entertainment, then so-be-it.

I just think the Olsen girls didn't ask nor deserved to be spoken of like that; and as I have been saying, no one's been rash enough to claim they'd say that sort of thing to their dad's face, have they? So funny, maybe, offensive, undeniably.

I find the best method of putting distracting beauty in girls that age in context is to think of boys that age... teenage boys can be a nightmare to deal with and are obviously immature... and apart from the 'wrapping', teenage girls are just the same... bleugh

I think part of the intended humour of the countdown sites derives from the (perhaps necessary) absurdity in having an age of consent; that these two attractive healthy young adults are to be considered children until they've been alive for 6575 days, at which point it's morally acceptable to consider them as sexual beings.

I think that most people who put a web-countdown like that up would use that as an excuse if they had seen it written somewhere and needed to defend their actions.

I do agree that the idea is absurd; but then having to make murder illegal is equally absurd if you think about it. Do people need to be told it's bad?. In an ideal world eveyone would be responsible enough to decide based on the circumstances and individuals involved.

In the real world a quasi-arbitary number has to do. Personally I think 18 is silly; the stepped ages-of-consent in much of Europe (especially the German law which protects 14-17 year olds who are being sexually exploited by an adult in the opinion of the parents/social sevices/courts) seem far more sensible. But if there's a law like that in place to protect minors and we don't give it creedance...

... well, we're again making life for those who break it easier as their actions are somehow less shocking if we joke about exactly the same thing.

The problem is the jokes all started when the Olsens were pretty much indisputably kids, and were being made by adults. I don't think that's healthy for the reasons I've given.

I also think that the rape compairison is a very very bad one. I know at least three close female friends who've been raped, and I'm pretty sure all of them would rather pose for something non-sexual ('cause those Olsen photos are non-sexual) and have someone jerk-off using the photo than be raped.

Although most people are not remotely mature at 18, you have to draw a line somewhere, else you end up with ludicrous situations where you have voting working driving drinking adults who can't legally have sex.

    Cheers.

Another pet peeve of mine. I notice that a poster alluded to you as self-righteous. I have seen this bandied around a fair bit on these Boards, when what the person really means to say is, "Your argument is much stronger and better presented than my own". Defeat an argument by presenting a stronger case against it, or accpept that we need to learn. That is the only way these discussion Board debates can work.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately some people are bad losers. I never understood what the big deal about being proved wrong in an argument; it generally means you've learnt something, and isn't that a good thing?

    Valis

These two have been objectifying themselves for years now...

Yeah, and The Little Mermaid is a crack whore, and Belle gives knee-shakers on the corner of 11th and Grand. If by you 'objectifying' you mean appearing in kiddies movies that some men watched because of their sexual attraction to adolescents, then they weren't objectifying themselves. It was the men who did that. As I have yet to see an Olsen movie (my excuse is I have daughters) where they were being "overtly sexual", I can't see how they objectified themselves in any sexual way.

If Mary-Kate appears in 'Barely Legal', then tissues-away for anyone who likes that; she's objectified herself and is being paid for it. No harm, no foul. Probably a little tacky still though...

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a woman's appearance in a situation like that, provided you don't make her feel uncomfortable or threatened. This has been more about the hijacking of teenage children's movie stars in to some distastful coming-of-age fantasy; it's rather different.

    And that photo of Lindsay Lohan ; well, pretty young girl. For christ-sake, I spent three weeks last summer on a nudist camp where there were plenty of examples of pretty young girls without bikinis. Does that mean I found it sexual? Nah. Look at another photo of her;

Now she just looks like a kid... which is what she is... and this is under 'new photos' on her website. Stick a 17 year-old in a bikini and genetics and biology can make her a babe. But a sexual object? That's just silly.

I'd rather have Zelma Hijac and J. Lo for an evening than the pixie twins...that's just me though...they remind me WAY too much of my neice for me to think them "hot"....YUCKIE!

Ok, it's 2:15 AM and I can't sleep, and since this is the never ending thread, I wanna give my input.

I love the Olson girls, they hate to be called twins, and they want their own idenities. Their dad loves them, and their mom too, but they chose to live with their dad and stepmom. Cool.

They are a multimillion dollar industry. Good for them! Was Trump ever under this much scrutinty? When did he ever flash his bad hairdo to the public? Did he have his own website when he would get a good weave? < no cuz it never happened >

Let them alone, they are adorable, and for the sex thing, I saw an interview with them and they are repulsed by the old guys that have stalked them since Full House. Believe me they can afford big beefy bodyguards.

Now for the 20 something electrician who was at my home this morning about 8:00 AM while I was still in my jammies.................

They may have made their money doing children's movies but they have grown up. The picture at the start of this thread isn't of innocent little girls in mary janes.

I don't know everyone on this thread, but in observing some of the reactions it seems our JW past still influences our attitudes. Girls raised in today's society do not arrive at 14 not knowing what a pass is. They are not sheltered in a cult environment and then shocked at 18 when men notice them. They are not raised to marry quickly at a young age with zero experience.

There are lots of factors at play here. Men have natural 'programming' (DNA) and respond to visual stimuli, as well as the urge to reproduce, often! On TV or off, attractive young women garner their attention, solicited or unsolicited.

These twins, having been raised in the industry, are even better prepared than most when it comes to handling the attention they engender. They would be far less successful without the attention. Justin Timberlake, nSync, other boy bands are examples of young males that also attract attention. I work with women in their 30s 40s and beyond that salivate over them, buy their records, watch their videos, etc.

I have a 24 year old daughter who attracted more than her fair share of attention from 15 on. Was she aware of it? absolutely. She thought it was funny, she never for a moment considered guys outside of her own age, but she could handle the attention without having a breakdown or feeling threatened....she laughed at it.

I feel very little pity for teens and on in various industries that we are crying about as being objectified. They want the attention, get paid for it and thrive on it. I don't blame men for it!

I have freedom of choice, and so do men ... I don't care if some men choose to be with women 20 yrs younger ... I wouldn't choose them anyway! I prefer my men younger too!

lighten up people.... (p.s. yes I have had many and probably more of the negative experiences listed here .... abuse, rape, etc. and at the hands of lovely god-fearing honorable JW men, not the men that joke about the Olsons....)

phew, glad I got ALL THAT off my chest !!! hahahahha

I don't think this thread is about feeling pity for the Olson Twins. It's more about older men counting the days until teenaged girls turn 18 so they can pursue them for a sexual relationship.

I wasn't raised in the org. I still didn't know what a pass was at 14. I did know what sex was. I just didn't understand all the grown up matters concerning it. My views on websites devoted to Olsons becoming legal, come from my own personal experience being treated like a sexual conquest while still under 18. I didn't get baptized as a JW until I was 20.

I have read JWD off and on for three years. I registered with JWD last September. The thing I guess that bewilders me the most is the attitude towards women and how they look, etc. by a good number of the men and some of the women here. Hillary Step made a comment on this thread that helped me understand better and here it is:

As a general comment and not alluding to anyone in particular, I have noticed that many XJW males, and some females, have a similar view of women that many adolescents schoolboys have. The fact that they are now way beyond adolescence and still have this view gives strength to the argument, frequently discussed on JWD, that the WTS stifles the natural development of adolescence in many ways. The result of this is that when many males, even in later years, exit the WTS they seem to feel the need to live the adolescence that they missed.

You hit the nail on the head HS.

Maybe men are stimulated visually, but this doesn't mean they shouldn't allow their brains and conscience to operate. This does not excuse them from having the proper perspective on who are girls and who are fully matured women.

Wow, this turned into a strange thread. Something that I've gathered while perusing this subject is that some of the women think that women are above visuals and the objectifying of men and are only interested in romance. Well, from my own personal experience, this is not true. I know many, and I mean a lot of girls that only want one night stands and talk about their conquests. They aren't looking for any kind of romance with a guy and they break plenty of guys hearts because the guys get to attached. Just in the last week I have had my butt grabbed, my face licked, and my shaved head kissed, and I've been asked to have an orgy. These were girls that I either didn't know at all or girls that I'd just met within the hour. They were not looking for romance. And I'm pretty sure that I was being objectified. Of course, being the fact I'm a guy, I didn't really mind.
