    Mary,

OK, but if you came up with no other explanations, would that make you believe?

No, I wouldn't believe just because no other physical explanation could be found. This, again, would be the argument from ignorance. I could just as easily say elves or aliens did it. I would believe if there were positive evidence for the supernatural, though.

It's ok not to know everything.

What do you consider "positive evidence?"

I would also like to point out that using unexplained phenomenon to prove the existence of supernatural forces is circular.

The existence of supernatural forces have not been proven, so you cannot point to unexplained phenomenon and say supernatural forces must have done it, and the reason we know supernatural forces exist is because of unexplained phenomenon.

It's like saying rainbow making elves exist because rainbows exist and rainbows exist because rainbow making elves exist.

    Mary,

Actually Houdini had a really good idea. He gave his wife a secret code so that when he died she could contact him on the other side. If a medium was able to provide the correct code, then it was pretty good positive evidence of the supernatural. Also, there are many parasychological experiments that have been developed that, if positive, would have provided pretty compelling evidence for the supernatural.

Unfortunately, none of parapsychological experiments over the last 100 years have had provided anything statistically significant. Maybe if ouija boards actually did what people claim when on camera - even with the participants blindfolded, maybe if remote viewing worked, maybe if the ganzfield experiments worked, maybe if astrology worked, etc. etc. etc.

I think that if the supernatural were real, there would be a vast body of positive data. We see quite the opposite, though, after a century of rigorous study.

p.s. BTW, get off Stinkypantz's case. You mess with her you mess with me. Got it?!

    Awwwwww

    KGB-

I would be willing to call a truce, but you must try not to irritate me so. All you have to do is agree with everything I say all of the time. (This is me joking.) Muah!!

    ---------------

I just wanted to say that even though I do not believe in the supernatural per se, these stories creep me out.

    Rem:
In all honesty, it appears that what you are saying is that regardless of what evidence might be presented, you would still discount a "supernatural" explanation, in favour of there being an "unknown" physical explanation.
Seems like science has become your "altar to an unknown god".

Incidentally, your own reasoning comes across as pretty circular, too:
It can't be supernatural because there must be a physical explanation.
It must have a physical explanation because it can't be supernatural.

Sounds pretty closed-minded to me, but that's just IMHO.
If it gets you through the day, so be it

Personally I've experienced some pretty weird stuff, that I would attribute to the supernatural. I'm still looking for scientific and physical explanations for some of it, but I suspect that an answer won't be forthcoming in my lifetime, if ever. It makes for plenty of gasps of astonishment, in cosy gatherings, though

In view of the current trend of antagonistic nit-picking, that seems to prevail these days, I'm blowed if I'm going to subject my psyche to that kind of treatment on these issues.
(Oh, and yes, I am implying that you are antagonistic in your manner)
I've seen too many good friends walk away from this board, in recent months, because of exactly the kind of treatment you are delivering here.

That having been said, I generally enjoy your posts

Thank you Little Toe. Rem's smug and condescending attitute on the subject has become rather a bore. Even if a ghost appeared in front of him or bit him on the ass, he'd still be there trying to come up with a scientific explanation.

    I'm outta here.

    Mary,

Speaking of boring, I think a world devoid of all mystery is indeed a boring one.

    Mecurious?

because I have experienced strange things in my lifetime. I have said this many times before .

Rem, please tell us what your experinces are?
