    Realist:

The typical (though not all) Nazi, Communist, Iraqi or US soldiers were/are similarly uninformed.

A very proper correction. There are no exceptions; every nation has acted in its own best interests, whether or not those interests were/are ethically or morally correct. As dedalus says:

but it's still possible to have integrity...for the wrong things.

And that's exactly where the personal integrity comes into play. When (and if) we discover that what we fought for were the wrong things, then we, with equal (or greater) conviction, step up, reconsider our position, and do our best to change things for the better (and, if possible, undo the damage we helped to cause).

It's not "my country right or wrong," any more than its "my WTS, right or wrong."

So, now, I'm a "soldier" on the other side of the lines.

Its too bad it had to come to this. Every single morning I have breakfast with a former Vietnam Vet and he has a bad taste for the American government because of the way, he, and many other veterans have been treated, especially after the war. Just a month ago, he began to receive his checks from the government thanks to his persistent attorney. He lived off welfare for over 12 years. He knows what these young soldiers are presently going through. People in my community even doubted whether he was in Vietnam. He has a strong distaste for corrupt politicians, and all governments are loaded with greedy ambitious men. When it comes to politics and running the country, you either tow the line of the international (controllers) bankers or else.

I understand the position of DR, yes, he should have been up front with Simon. Though I have my personal views I keep them to a minimum. I will not impose my views nor opinions on others. I'm not here trying to convert anyone. If Bugs Bunny is your god, so be it! Enjoy.

    thichi,

    funny article you posted!

    a) nothing happened to the czechs under german occupation before the war got ugly. yes the jews were forced to leave germany and their property was taken away. however, both things were unfortunately nothing out of the ordinary at this time considering what was going on in other places of the world. would these human rights violations have justified a war that caused 60 millions deaths? especially considering that it allowed stalin to take over half of europe thus lowering the human rights even further.

and most importantly the war with germany did NOT even start to end attrocities or occupations but for economical reasons.

    b)

the liberals used to care about human rights violations

as george carlin would say BULL SHIT! NO US government ever cared about human rights!

the civil war was faught to free the slaves? BULL SHIT

first world war to protect danish children from the german emperor? BULL SHIT

WWII because peaceful america was suddenly and unexpectedly attacked and because the US gov. wanted to end the attrocities in europe? BULL SHIT

vietnam to help the vietnamese? korea to help the koreans? kuwait to help the kuwaities????? BS BS BS BS

all these wars were faught for economical and or strategic reasons. none of these were faught to protect human rights.

PS: are other countries better? of course not! russia, china, germany (in the past), france, britain, japan you name it....no gov. ever cared about human rights to a degree that would make them take action.

I have noticed a big change in the attitude of americans towards 'freedom of speach'. They used to say, 'i may disagree w you, but i'll defend to the death your right to say it'. They don't say this anymore.

Simon I don't totally agree with you on your feelings toward MANY Americans, but you deserved better than that. Regardless of the temper of the board regarding the war, you and Ang have done us all a great service in having this board here for us to vent, discuss and socialize.

BTW jerky is an aquired taste....probably like Kidney Pie
