i would have to disagree....if mccain wouldve ran as an independent, he couldve stolen a lot of republican votes from bush. mccain won the election for bush by joining sides with him.

True, but would he have won the election? Probably not. It would have been Nader, McCain, Bush and Gore. Gore would have won only because of the Bush/McCain split. Frankly, I would have voted for McCain if he had run. But, when Bush was the guy running, I decided not to vote at all. Both candidates turned my stomach.
