While there are not too many currently defending the Watchtower in this discussion forum, it happens from time to time. And quite often, there may be new people and lurkers reading these discussions. I just wanted you to ponder these questions. And feel free to comment on any part of these questions.

    1. Is WTS right or wrong to strongly suggest (to the point that it seems like insistence) that "true Christians" stay away from websites that debate the Bible and WT doctrine? (Websites like this very one you are reading now.)

    2. If you feel that they are wrong, isn't it possible that they are not spirit-directed?

    Sub-questions on 2.
    A. What does spirit direction actually do for them?
    B. If God "directs" them, then should they not write errors? If God allows them to write errors because His direction only goes so far, then if direction is not clear, then shouldn't they be discreet (as the faithful and discreet slave) and not be so confident that their directives are correct?

    3. Even if they are wrong, aren't you running ahead of them by coming to a forum like this one instead of waiting on Jehovah to reveal new light for you?

There are 2 replies to question 1. I can understand why they would insist that followers not go on the internet. Using myself as an example i would probably still be sitting inside the walls of the watchtower if it wasn't for the internet. So it can be quite a dangerous and formidable place to be when an apologist comes across a site critical to the Wt.

But on saying that if it is the truth and they are in fact imperfect individuals who make mistakes e.g king David.

Sorry carrying on from my previous post. Using the example of King David. Yes he was imperfect and yes he made some pretty big mistakes. But the thing with the bible is the didn't try to hide it from the Israelite nation. I think Wt need to be a bit more honest and up front about its history and polices and procedures. Using myself as an example again. I learnt more about the watchtower and how it functions in 18 months than I ever did going to the Hall in just under 4 decades. Even now it stuns me how just how completely in the dark I was. I also think that a member if he chooses to disagree with them. He should feel free to voice his opinion with out fear of reprisals.

Are they spirit directed I would probably have to say "No", going by all the failed hopes and promises, and terrible effect they have had on people's lives.

They are still imperfect men, but that shows how strong our faith is. We know they will make mistakes but we are sure they are chosen....blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

As I've mentioned before I'm active and an elder.

I think it is a mistake for us to attempt to control what people read or see. Hebrews 5:14 says quite clearly that Christians should have their perceptive powers trained "through use". The stricter the control of what people do - making a lot of rigid rules and regulations as the Pharisees did in Jesus day - does not allow them to use their perceptive powers. They are not trained to make good decisions.

In my mind, what you believe should stand up to outside information. As an example, I'm married. I would never tell my wife to not listen to what other people say about me. I want her to take in all points of view. If someone comes along with a highly critical, damning statement about me, she should use her perceptive powers to determine if she thinks it is true. She might decide to ask me about it. Imagine if I told her to ignore anything she heard about me and that I considered it disloyal to even consider it. Wouldn't that imply that my actions and reputation can't stand up to whatever someone says about me? If someone has a legitimate complaint, wouldn't it actually build credibility to say "You know, I never thought about that. I need to make a change and I apologize for any issues i've caused you." Of course, this only works if I do not claim to be the perfect person or husband. Also, it only works if I do not try to force my wife to stay no matter what using force, fear, threats and the like.

To draw the parallel then, if the Governing Body took the stance that they were just trying to do their best to lead Jehovah's people and they realize they could be wrong from time to time and did not shun people who decided this isn't for them, and if they actually acknowledged error and humbly repented when they made mistakes, then it would lend tremendous credibility for them and it would make it so much easier to follow their lead. As it is, however, the control increases. You can now be disfellowshipped for what you read and nothing more ("abhorrent" pornography), even if it is not generally known that you view or look at this type of material. There are signs that the Governing Body might be leaning toward much tigher control. All of this concerns me gravely. I believe that having "holy spirit" to guide the organization simply means displaying its fruitage in the way that we deal with the flock, but that isn't the opinion of the Governing Body, apparently.

In any case, I've probably written way too much here and I'm interested in your comments on it.

committeechairman, why are you here? this "religion" is a cult!!!! you can't deny this fact. are you like me? going thru the motions.....stuck in a place where you can't get out of or here to taunt the people who are out or want out.

I just want to live my life, free to believe what i want. celebrate what i want....and i guarantee. if an elder approaches me and questions me. I have no problem telling to go fuck themselves.

you see, you are here for a reason....i suggest you don't sit on the fence and play both sides. Man up and choose which side your on. if your up there preaching, you are lying to yourself and blood guilty for lying to the people.

Grow a pair and quit being a pharisee.
