I expect there are many cases. Again, I don't see the benefit to the WT of the 'two witness rule." Truth is an absolute defense to libel/slander. The press coverage was priceless. Time will tell whether the US is harder on pedophiles. Kendrick needs to meet all the nice inmates in prison for murder and rape.

    Farkel says,

Win or lose in appeal, the adverse publicity will hurt them more than all the words we can say put together.

Yes, and wait until a few dozen more high profile pedophile cases appear in this next couple of years!

The money issue will not bring them down, any more than it will bring down Scientology right now... as they are at this very moment suffering the greatest media defeat in their history. Take an hour and type in "Scientology" on Youtube and in Google search - it's really hitting the fan.

Although most leaving Scientology still believe in the "tech," they are out for Miscavige's blood. MAJOR DEFECTIONS as no one wants to be associated with the current leadership! Even his own father has left the building!

Embarrassment and scandal alone can sink a Sea Org ship, and the lifeboats drop down the sides like the Titanic sinking. Yet Miscavige has all kinds of new things rolling out to make money - new e-meters at $4000 apiece, a new Level 8 OT for millionaires, very large and opulent buildings in Clearwater, Florida, and a whole bunch of new stupid "secrets" to lure in the power hungry.

My former back specialist has a doctor buddy who has already spent $250,000 on getting as much of these absurd secrets as he can.

When your celebrity ship is going down due to scandals and bad behavior, the ships will drop. Sects will arise. People will still enjoy South Park.

Money or lack of it will not kill the WT - but bad publicity means death.

Band......the appeal will NOT focus on if communication was privileged, which would bar communication to 3rd parties.....blahh.......blahhh.......blahhh......this was already foucsed on and covered in the trial....they found the WTS guilty. I know this for a fact I spoke with Rick Simons myself a few weeks ago....holy shit.... you're like a dog on a bone.......(excuse the pun Randy)......

Conti’s fight, however, may not be over. The verdict is being appealed, and there’s a chance the damages awarded to Conti could be reduced.

    willy!!!!

They haven't been to MY door yet.

Thing is, I got to them before they got to me. I don't suspect they will ever come here again. UNLESS JEHOVAH DIRECTS THEM.

It is never over until the final appeals court rules. As I explained earlier, an appeals court rarely examines the factual determination of the jury or judge. They had the opportunity to see body language and hear a voice. The facts are clear in this case. The WT has every right to appeal legal rulings by the judge. Trial judges are supposed to find the law, not make new law. There may be three sets of appeals in this case.

The issues will revolve around notice to the WT that it had to notify the congregation. I see major problems with the plaintiff's case. First Amendment issues will most likely be raised.

I am not on the side of the WT. If the appeals courts uphold the trial judge's rulings, the time for elation will arrive. Clearly, this is the farthest anyone has been able to forge ahead on this one. The WT has been able to settle such cases so no court has ruled on their conduct. It is a major victory to get so far. Of course, if you have no liability and are God's organization so you need not fear bad publicity, why would you squander precious resources by settling claims?

I don't know if the supposed pedophile registry at Bethel was raised in court. If it exists, why have one if you have no liability. The WT comments concerning Conti could have been much nicer in tone. It is clear that the WT had notice that Kenrick abused her. He told the elders and they did not notify the congregation. If the congregation had been notified, it is reasonable to assume that no children would have had access to Kendrick. The injury to Conti was forseeable.

The juries determination of the facts stand. If the WT had no legal duty, the factual findings do not make a difference.

Is the issue that they didn't 'notify' the congregation

    or

is the issue that they required the abuse be kept secret?
