So, basically, Argentina is in a mess financialy (a bit of an understatement) and in a pathetic and useless attempt to deflect attention from internal affairs the leader of Argentina creates this spurious claim to islands which has a Democracy of it's own and chooses not to be part of Argentina.

Now is where someone quotes Thatcher's line about the problem with socialism is that you always run out of someone else's money.

Only if you have an axe to grind or if you're not very bright. Whichever cap fits.

    Looks like it, doesn't it?

Small wonder, then, that Argentina are looking enviously, with hungry eyes, at oil prospects around the Falklands. This Reuters report is interesting.

"(Reuters) - Argentina will take legal action against Britain's Premier Oil ( PMO.L ) after the company agreed to invest $1 billion (639.5 million pounds) to help develop an oil field off the disputed Falkland Islands, Argentina's Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

Argentina and Britain fought a war 30 years ago over the UK-governed islands, which are known as the Malvinas in Spanish. Argentina claims the Falklands as its own and has sought to disrupt drilling there.

Last week, Premier said it would partner with Rockhopper ( RKH.L ), an explorer that discovered oil north of the Falklands in 2010, paying an initial $231 million in cash and providing around $770 million to help build infrastructure to secure a 60 percent stake in the Sea Lion field."

"Argentina has already claimed to be taking legal action against all the companies involved in oil exploration around the Falklands, as well as their investors. Todate there is no evidence of any real action taking place. The British Foreign Office have confirmed that Argentina has no basis for action in International Law."

A move into the disputed south Atlantic oilfields has put Premier Oil's CEO in troubled political waters.
