Oh, I don't believe any of it Still. But I can be very comfortable around it because it is upbuilding, nonjudgemental, and inclusive. I think that before the bible religions came along and messed with people's cultures, religion probably served its people much better. It was local, and in tune with their specific experience, and bound the community. Then the middle eastern religions took hold, oppressed people, called their cultures sinful, forced them to adopt cultures that did not fit in with their environments, made everyone feel like shit, and took over the world.
So while I don't believe my Wiccan and Pagan friends---their systems are much more tolerable. Do you notice they never enter these debates? They don't need to. They don't care to.
My friend was working to open this spiritual center, and they got a booth at a community affair to introduce themselves. A couple of booths away, there was a christian church with a booth. My friend said she had some soft music playing, and the christians turned on theirs---and then turned it up to drowned out the pagan music. My friends kneejerk reaction was to turn hers up a bit. Chrisitans responded lovingly by turning their much louder. So my friend just turned hers back down--and refused to compete with them. THEN they start chanting REALLY LOUD "We've got Jesus how 'bout YOU?" And they would jump into the path of people walking and point to people as they screamed their cheer---like trying to force the people to answer. My friend said they were an embarrassment. People were looking for ways around them, or being startled out of thought---conversations interupted.
She was trying to talk to people who would stop at her booth, and they would be screaming over their voices. My friend said she got a raging headache from all the ruckus they were stirring up. But that's okay---she has healing hands.
