ok, im putting my neck on the line here but ive always believed that children should be raised to make their own choice, if to serve Jah or not.

I wasnt ever forced to believe in anything, any religion etc, although my background is very complicated.

anyway, hubby and i have always thought that how can a child decide if they dont know what other things are, ie birthday partys, halloween etc. SO, our children are allowed to choose if to go places etc. Last year our little boy said he didnt want to go to a halloween party, this year he said he might. Do you feel thats right or wrong? He know's why we dont choose to do them but he also know's Jehovah wants him to serve him when his older because HE wants to, not HAS too.

Our other child is too young at present.

Well, Adults are supposed to make decisions for their young children, but when they get older, they should give them some leeway, we know that the Watchtower does not do that.

The majority, if not all of us, who grew up in the JW religion, never had a choice. You are presenting this scenario as if it is a common occurrence, rather than an anomaly, one that would come with repercussions if those taking the lead were to find out. Allowing children to celebrate holidays isn't a "conscience matter". It is explicitly forbidden.

Guess it depends on if you phrase things the jw way; 'you can choose to take part in x,y or z but we don't because it is satanic and pagan and we know it pisses jah off or hurts his feelings and we don't want to be destroyed in the big A, but if you want to go ahead'.

AE you and your hubby are a rare couple (in a good way).

The influence of repeated exposure to behavioral and emotional conditioning is carried for a life-time by all that are exposed to it, especially the children. Being allowed to make a choice is one of the greatest gifts you can offer them, however if they are repeatedly exposed to what others teach "a healthy christian conscience" would be the right choice are they really given a fair chance at a free choice?

Your wisdom in handling the matter is commendable, Angel, but don't be surprised if you get a loving shepherding call to "readjust your thinking."

If you really wanted to give them a choice you would expose them to ALL the religions and theologies and then let them decide.

Sorry, but your questioning has to be addressed first:

    "...to serve Jah or not."

What you're really stating based on your previous postings is "...to serve Jah the way the Watchtower Society interprets it or not"

    You further state...

"He know's why we dont choose to do them but he also know's Jehovah wants him to serve him when his older because HE wants to, not HAS too."

Again, what you are really stating is "He knows why we don't choose to do them but he also knows the way the Watchtower Society says Jehovah wants to be served when he's older because HE wants to, not HAS too."

Unfortunately, for many there will be little to no choice. He is being indoctrinated through methods and techniques employeed by cults. His whole world, family, and friends will be centered around the teachings and beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses and dictated through the pages of the Watchtower Society's publications and talks. Do you sincerely want him to make a choice? Stop having him so heavily indoctrinated and influenced by the Watchtower Society when he is a child. When he is an adult and mature enough to make such a heavy decision and weigh all the pros and cons and the arguments for and against Jehovah's Witnesses, then support him regardless of choice. Ensure he is fully exposed to all information on Jehovah's Witnesses and make an educated decision.

That would mean letting the children decide.
