WHY don't Americans realize GUNS are destroying their country?

I'm coming in way late on this, so I'm just going to comment on the initial post:

Even growing up as a JW, I grew up with guns. I lived in the rural South and we kept guns for hunting, though I never really took to it. I enjoyed target shooting more.

My immediate family was well enough off that we never had to hunt for food. By the time I was in high school, I had proclaimed my disdain for hunting for "sport", though I had family members who still lived up in the hills and hunted deer to put food on the table in the winter. They also killed coyotes and mountain lions to keep them from their farm animals. Guns were part of their survival even in the 1960s and 1970s.

Coming from that background, guns are a tool, nothing more. They help put food on the table, they help protect livestock. And since people who live on farms and in the higher country are further removed from police protection, a gun can help save their own life.

Guns aren't the problem, it's people who pick up a gun and don't respect it or respect life who cause the problem.

Problem is that by banning guns you don't ban the bad people. Bad people will still do bad things. And if you ban guns, then good people will follow the rules and not own them, giving the bad people an edge when it comes to committing more crimes against the good.

I did note an old gent in Lantana K-mart about 20 years ago... pushing his wife's wheelchair. Of all the people in that store I was probably the only one who noticed a J frame S&W peeking out of his IWB holster. The Lantana cop in the next aisle didnt notice either...or chose to ignore it (as he should in my opinion)

Most of the "sheep" dont worry about the big black raincoat (on a sunny day) or notice those fanny packs that screams gun.

    Witness007,

If the laws were tragically changed tomorrow to prevent Americans from keeping and bearing arms, do you think we will all wake up in paradise? I don't think so. We will all be just as unsafe only more so because now a law-abiding citizen will be even more helpless.

Do you think all the illegally held firearms are going to be turned in??? I don't think so. Do you think there will be no more school shootings??? I don't think so. Do you think this will prevent somebody who has a desire for revenge??? I don't think so.

This is about morality, ethics and how laws that are already on the books are not being enforced. You can thank the liberals for that.

Every god-damn criminal will still have a gun.

I think this story below hits the heart of the problem, which is an easy access to firearms. Just out of curiosity, does any American state have any form of licensing as far as firearms are concern? Where I live you have to go through major police check ups before you are allowed to obtain a license. Interestingly, we have a very low crime rate as well. Those two wouldn't have anything to do with each other, would they? ~zagor

The baby and the Illinois FOID card....old news. Just shows that once the state gets it's fingers in an issue they are bound to screw it up.

Some states (Ilinois is one of them) have a host of (extra) gun laws...list of banned guns, ID laws, waiting periods, transportation restrictions... even a few cities have total bans on handguns.. cant buy sell own transport or think about it... and dont even ask about a permit to carry!

Chicago-Cook county is one of these places... and they have a pretty grim statistcal history regarding people on people crimes using deadly force.

Gun Control laws dont reduce crime. They just make hoops for the law abiding to jump through.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin

    I agree with Benjamin Franklin

I would ask 'what is essential'?

Is a gun essential to your survival now? sammieswife.

I have decided that for myself, yes, it is essential.

Self defense is an essential human right.

however, self defense does not require a gun. Guns are manufactured for only one purpose and that is to kill. In that sense you are declaring that your right to owning and using a weapon produced to kill - is a human right. Break it down further and you are now saying that the right to kill is your human right.....I would disagree that it is a human right but more of a private right through law. sammieswife.

My right to defend myself is a natural right. If the attacker dies, as the result of my defense tactics, the blood is on his hands.

Again, I don't want to break a sweat when defending myself or my family. A gun is small and efficient.

So far, I've never had to use it, and I would prefer to keep it that way.

Should some moron attack us, however, I'll be happy to oblige him with a little lead poisoning.

DRILL SERGEANT JOE B. FRICK'S RULES FOR A GUN, KNIFE, BASEBALL BAT OR FIST FIGHT

    1. Forget about knives, bats and fists. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns. Bring four times the ammunition you think you could ever need.

    2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammunition is cheap - life is expensive. If you shoot inside, buckshot is your friend. A new wall is cheap - funerals are expensive

    3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.

    4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.

    5. Move away from your attacker and go to cover. Distance is your friend. (Bulletproof cover and diagonal or lateral movement are preferred.)

    6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight , bring a semi or full-automatic long gun and a friend with a long gun.
    7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
    8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running. Yell "Fire!" Why "Fire"? Cops will come with the Fire Department, sirens often scare off the bad guys, or at least cause then to lose concentration and will.... and who is going to summon help if you yell "Intruder," "Glock" or "Winchester?"

    9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun.

    10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

    11. Always cheat, always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
    12. Have a plan.

    13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work. "No battle plan ever survives 10 seconds past first contact with an enemy."

    14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible, but remember, sheet rock walls and the like stop nothing but your pulse when bullets tear through them.

    15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

    16. Don't drop your guard.

    17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees. Practice reloading one-handed and off-hand shooting. That's how you live if hit in your "good" side.

    18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. Smiles, frowns and other facial expressions don't (In God we trust. Everyone else keep your hands where I can see them.)

    19. Decide NOW to always be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.

    20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
    21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet if necessary, because they may want to kill you.
    22. Be courteous to everyone, overly friendly to no one.

    23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
    24. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than "4".

    25. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket." At a practice session, throw you gun into the mud, then make sure it still works. You can clean it later.

    26. Practice shooting in the dark, with someone shouting at you, when out of breath, etc.

    27. Regardless of whether justified of not, you will feel sad about killing another human being. It is better to be sad than to be room temperature.
    28. The only thing you EVER say afterwards is, "He said he was going to kill me. I believed him. I'm sorry, Officer, but I'm very upset now. I can't say anything more. Please speak with my attorney."

Finally, Drill Sergeant Frick's Rules For Un-armed Combat.

    1: Never be unarmed.
self defense does not require a gun. -Sammie lee

Sammie... please take note of Rule number 23 and Rule number 6, 7 ... there will be a test later

    Yours

    ~Hill
