Recently, in the news were reports of 90 plus year old men being arrested for soliciting prostitutes. I believe the charges were dropped. And the vast majority of people polled thought that police should worry less about prostitutes and johns and more about city government waste.

    Your thoughts?

It's too expensive to legalize. The gov. would have to regulate it, do health checks ect.

So long as there is no coercion involved, so long as it is a free act between consenting adults, how is it a crime that involves the state and demands criminal penalties in response?

Nonsense. If it is brought out of the black market, the government will tax it, just as it does everything else.

I've never understood why prostitution is illegal, but making porn videos is not. Evidently, you can't pay someone to have sex with you, but you can pay someone to have sex with someone else so you can videotape it. What gives?

That is a point I often make as well. If selling your body for sex is prostitution, (which it is), so is selling your body for sex so that it can be videotaped and distributed at a profit. It is the height of hypocrisy. I suspect that it comes down to who is making the profit- a corporation or an individual. BA- To answer the OP question- No.

BA, I too think that prostitution is an immoral act. I would like to know the your rationale for banning it. BTS

    Yes.

Oldest profession around. It's hypocritical how puritanical nations try to pretend it is the cause of all evils.

the policing of it is ridiculous.
