I am torn right now between the Totally Just Flush It Translation......or the Wipe My A$$ Version..........oompa

ROFL! Sorry, that was very funny, you got to admit that.

I can't read any version of the bible now, cause as soon as I open one and start to read, I start muttering 'bad words' directed at the "Universal Playground Bully" aka god.

Example...can't find a wife, go rape one then pay her father for what ya did....$#%% #$&

Angels coming a-visiting and the locals want a gang bang, no worries, tell them to gang bang your loyal daughters...&*%^#@ %$@!%^

I prefer the King James Version, but I hear that the ESV (English Standard Version) is a good second choice.

Did you know that Paine wrote the entire part 1 of the Age of Reason from memory and without any Bible for a reference? The Age of Reason was banned in Britain for years due to the whining of the religionists there. Guess what? It backfired! It sold more copies on the black market than it probably would have ever sold if it was freely available.

Yes, I did know that. What a memory.

When I read it, I was still wanting badly to believe the Bible was what I always thought it was. That book just opened my eyes to the possibility that it wasn't at all anything that I had thought. Then my mind took over and I read many other things. It was like blinders being lifted.

See the Bible as a metaphor that is not to be taken literally and then go to work on it. Remove the pages that appeal to you and support your belief system. Leave in place the nasty bits that make god out to be violent.

Love that, Trevor. There are lots of other books out there, that have good life lessons, and rules for living. Modern psychologists have some really good ideas. The Bible has some of the lessons that would be good to live by, but the rest of it is legend, lies and more lies.

"I am looking into buying what is called "The Jefferson Bible"" Best selling point of the Jefferson Bible was it's carry weight, well that and it's the most environment friendly version. Very light and very ecological without all those extra pages Jefferson considered irrelevant. Didn't he pretty much tear out any page that didn't contain a "Jesus" quote? It might have somewhat limited appeal to most religions today though, kinda of hard to scripture twist when you cut most the fat out.

I like the Jerusalem Bible because it has great big footnotes that explain lots of stuff.

I like the Revised Standard Version.

I use the Catholic Edition (since I'm Catholic). But there are several others available.

When I read the Psalms, I love to use the King James Version. The language is so beautiful.

You can go to http://www.biblegateway.com and look at verses in several different translations at once.

The site http://www.e-sword.net/ offers free Bible study software. They have the King James Version linked with Strong's Bible Dictionary in electronic form at no cost -- other commentaries too!!

If you go to this site, http://www.clerus.org/bibliaclerusonline/en/index.htm and click on the part of the Bible you want to look at on the left, you will get scripture on the right with links to commentary from the Early Church Fathers on the left side. Great stuff ;-).

This site: http://www.ccel.org/ gives you access to all the Early Church Fathers and other resources. If you join (it's free!) you can download whole books as *.pdf files.

And you haven't spent a penny yet...

When I realized how much genuine scholarship is available online absolutely free, I was shocked that the Watchtower Society continues to insist on having its literature distributed only in print (hahaha) and only by its selected agents (more hahaha). Just more proof that they really ARE all about the money coming in...

    Have at it!

    Hey StAnn:

The RSV-CE is back in print (I just bought one):

    http://www.amazon.com/Ignatius-Catholic-Bible-Standard-Burgundy/dp/1586171011/ref=pd_sim_b_title_2

It is the 1966 Edition, the same edition that appears on Bibiliaclerus.

    Pax,

    Ruth
