I need to add to my Jonny Greenwood and Kirk Hammit

Thom Yorke, he's pretty freakin good. Particularly I saw him doing this acoustic rendition of "The Clock" on youtube, incredible he can do that and sing!

Also James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers. His voice is soooo perfect to me, and he's awesome singing and playing sole guitar in the three piece band. Formerly fourtet....

Thanks Biker Chic- I appreciate everything you do for the forum. And all the other assistants too! Really enjoy hearing all your replies on this. I'm going to try compiling a list the next couple days of the guitarists names that were mentioned on this thread and let you know how many votes or mention of different names were made to give you all an idea of who everybody thought were the top guitarists. It would be intereseting to compare. I'm kind of a statistical freak anyway, so it might be interesting to see what the consensus of the group was. Doesn't mean that others picks weren't important, musical tastes are so objective and varied, everybody has their own interests, just thought it might be interesting. I'll let you know what I found out in a couple days, the rankings of the guitarists. Thanks, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Despite fearing the polls may be closed,....

Another up and coming guitarist, well he's been around awhile but on their last cd, Stadium Arcadium, it seemed like Red Hot Chili Peppers were letting John Frusciante I think his name is, play astounding lead guitar.

Agreed. I always did like Frusciante right from the Mothers Milk days and was glad he decided to hook up with them again after the hiatus. His playing/phrasing was somewhat understated in previous releases but seems to have come into his own on the latest CD. And he's damn good live.

    Others in no particular order;

    Jimmy Page

    Jimi Hendrix

    Eric Clapton

    Jeff Beck

    Pete Townshend

    Robin Trower

    Stevie Ray Vaughan

    Billy Gibbons

    Adam Jones (Tool)

    Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar)

    Dave Evans/The Edge (U2)

    Daniel Lanois

Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age)

Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave)

    Joe Satriani

    Joe Walsh, hands down - bikerchic's #97 - 97?!!

When I saw him in concert (many moons ago) I was mesmerized. Fan for life!

Good guitarists make it look so easy, don't they.
