A couple of my faves...check out Lindsey Buckingham's banjo style riff "Big Love" on Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" CD. Also some southern rockers, The Outlaws.."Green Grass and High Tides". Can't forget Lynard Skynard's "Free Bird" and "That Smell". Amazing stuff!

How about Denny Dias' (Dias's?) solo on the Steely Dan song "Do it Again". That's a great one!

Edited to add: I already mentioned this one on a previous post to this thread, duh

Pink Floyd - One of These Days

David Gilmour at his pyschedelic best with some slide guitar riffs he picked up from his 1971 tour of Mars. Not that it's technically complicated guitar wise but just the whole production of the song is rather sonically characteristic of the early stuff. And it reminds me of the Laser Floyd shows they used to have at the planetarium, lol.

Floydius Maximus, as we used to say,....

In addition to all the heavies mentioned, would like to throw Michael Hedges in the ring as one of my favorite acoustic players. Sadly he is gone, but his music is timeless IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPB-ShG_UWY&mode=related&search= Also: John McLaughlin and friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQL3cNv_mqc

Cat Stevens. If You Want To Sing Out

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
cause theres a million things to be
    You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
cause theres a million ways to go
    You know that there are

    Chorus:
You can do what you want
    The opportunitys on
And if you can find a new way
    You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
    You see ah ah ah
    Its easy ah ah ah
    You only need to know

Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
cause theres a million ways to go
    You know that there are

And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you
cause theres a million things to do
    You know that there are

    Chorus

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
cause theres a million things to be
    You know that there are
    You know that there are
    You know that there are
    You know that there are
    You know that there are

One of my favorites has always been Steve Howe of Yes. Back when I was playing guitar, his playing was always the hardest to copy but always so perfectly done. Jeff Beck's People Get Ready is also quite the masterpiece.

Thanks purps! Both of those are great ones. The guitar intro on And You And I is so simple but at the same time so elegant. Yes is one of those bands that I feel I'm in another world while listening to them.

Okay this guy may not qualify to be on this thread because he is not famous (yet) - but it impressed the heck out of me because he is a 16 year old Korean guy that just rocks! Lotsa fun just watching him. He has a real Joe Satriani sound...
