The gas station near my house went up 6 cents from this morning to evening - an average of about 1/2 a penny per hour.

    $2.85 per gallon in Dallas.

$2.89 this morning for regular unleaded. *sigh* Yes, yes, I know those of us in the U.S. are spoiled, but its hard to see oil companies with record profits while gas prices have almost doubled in the past couple of years (ok, don't know about doubled, but it's close. Not all that long ago, I could fill my tank for $15 or $16, now its $25+)

Interestingly, we all end up paying even if we don't own a vehicle.

I have noticed that the price of food and other goods transported by truck have gone up. If we use public transportation, buses, cabs, planes, etc., we see an increase. Anything transported by trucks for sure will see or has seen a price increase.

Memeber that in the US tax is pretty low compared to europe. .214 federal and .20 state, in most states.

Precisely, Europeans would pay about the same per gallon we would if their Socialist governments didn't add a 150-200% gas tax. But then, they do have better social services than we do, it's a trade off.

That's the problem with the American economy, we are oil dependant. Everything we do ties back to oil in one way or another. The sad part is that we could convert to Ethanol and Bio-Diesel two replenishable resources that we can grow right here at home. Take the oil money away from middle-eastern countries, and you take some of the fuel away from the Islamic-Jihadist movement.
