Oh yeah, that was you. I'm just finishing this conversation, its hilarious. Its just so crazy, if you could only play this back to the person.

Incidentally, I was in a Tim Horton's line up the other day, and a witness got behind me and started telling me about how bad the world was. I countered, but if the world is so bad why are life expectancies so much higher than a century ago? Its because there is less war, famine and disease. That is evidently a "conversation stopper".

LMAO!!! Good one! I'll have to try and use that line in one of my future conversations.

    I like the idea!

Sickoflies some points you can use for your advantage, you made the points but how to make them clear.

Note how he says "the bible" is his source. To find just when events happened the society NEEDS secular history, and its quick to make things fit its chronology but also to discredit things that disagree.

(for example, even for the lie 607 the society didn't read that in the bible...it was written somewhere secular history OR it came from their heads)

The best scripture to use is jeremiah 25:12 which says the 70 years ended when the babylonian king was punished. The society accept that this was 539. Anyone care to add 70 years to that? 609. The 70 years refers not to Jerusalems destruction and it didn't end when they got home. Read verse 9 there and it says surrounding nations. Checking a tablet in the British Musuem we see that the Assyrians were defeated in and around 609. That fits then eh? and agrees with the bible

Strongest arguement you can bring if doing it right is the UN scandal but you gotta do it right and not mention anything other than the UN and what you've read. Why would the UN have a motive other than delivering the truth. Surely if it was a lie or just a mistake on the UN's part, the society could have it sorted

    I hope these points help

that poor impotent elder... not much on sheparding is he? " go to the publications!!"

he handled himself ok as a company man i suppose.. but i'd like to see this transcripted into print so i could count how many times he directed you to the bible against how many times he directed you to society publications.

its chilling to think back at how many times we told studies and people at the door to question their religion, and then realize, once we are jehovahs witnesses, questioning the society is not only discouraged but punishable by disfellowshipping.

i was OFFENDED that he questions anyone who claims to have been molested. how can any child/teenager expect loving help from shepards who are programmed to assume they are lying??

Elder quote: "You can't just take everything what you hear at face value."

That is exactly the point, here, Bro. Elder(tm)! Apply healthy skepticism to ALL aspects of your life, especially info coming from a group or organization that claims to be God's True Channel of Communication(tm).

For any JW lurkers that think the Elder(tm) sounded correct and reasonable in his response: imagine this same converstaion and same defences used by someone defending some other religion. Imagine a Catholic Priest (for example) saying "hey, why are you questioning the Holy See? Just what are you hoping to prove here? Come on guy, seriuosly! Don't stray from The Church!"

I got the same impression, this guy literally thinks that most people are just making this stuff up.. At the same time claiming that the WTS doesn't cover it up! HA!

Another priceless gem of a quote by this Elder(tm): "It was published by The Society(tm) and for me, that is enough"

Totally different from other irrational religions, isn't it?

Catholic: "It was decreed by the Holy See, and for me, that is enough"

Mormon: "It was published by the Headquarters in Utah, and for me, tht is enough."

Scientologist: "It was published by L. Ron Hubbard, and for me, that is enough."

Branch Davidian: "It was explained by David Koresh, and for me, that is enough."

Jonestone victim: "It was declared by Rev. Jim Jones, and for me, that is enough."
