One thing that always pissed me off was when "faithful wives" used to blame their "unbelieving husbands" for making them celebrate birthdays, exchange XMas gifts, go to "worldly" get togethers, play the lottery, etc.

Elders say not to gossip. They are the worst gossippers in the congregation----but they do it as "shepherds".

They don't live up to whwat they tell others to do, not many of them do anyway.

Also, this policy of "keeping the congregation clean". I have watched quite a few of the videos on silentlambs re the child abuse scandals. In many of the cases it was the victim who was disfellowshipped and shunned, whilst the perpetrator was suppoerted by the congregation. How is that keeping the congregation clean? I would love to hear an elder's answer.

Some don't, but they are relegated to ignominy. (see DefD)

The Catholic Church is evil because the Pope can't possibly be the heir to Peter's Throne....

But! The Governing Body is God's ordained vessel of Truth and cannot be questioned.

( well only once! because my Husbands work was having a Christmas party NOT on the day!!! ) The Elder advised me to GO!! He said I was making my husbands job difficult with all my staying away from their gatherings-so I went..It was one of the most embarassing times of my life--- we sat a a huge table all by ourselves.... ( all the rest of the tables were full It was obvious it had been arranged that way!!) My husband danced with every woman at work NOT ONCE with me,,,, People came up to me & were extremly rude--- telling me that my husband was to good for a JW.... I had to agree with them... Then I started to get folks saying "Are you really his wife" You dont sound like the B,,,tch he says you are....My husband looked guilty---!!! Thank God he apoligised to me years later when I looked after him as he was dying....So dont say ALL JWS are hypocrites.... SOME go through a really difficult time because they are>>>> Forgive them they know not what they do.....

    *** Watchtower 1969 January 1 p.2 Page Two ***

Ever since 'The Watchtower' began to be published in July of 1879 it has looked ahead into the future... No, 'The Watchtower' is no inspired prophet, but it follows and explains a Book of prophecy the predictions in which have proved to be unerring and unfailing till now. 'The Watchtower' is therefore under safe guidance. It may be read with confidence, for its statements may be checked against that prophetic Book.

*** Watchtower 1972 April 1 p.197 'They Shall Know that a Prophet Was Among Them' ***

This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses... Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record.

    *** Watchtower 1980 January 1 p.2 Page Two (inside front cover) ***

A WATCHTOWER enables a person to look far into the distance and announce to others what is seen. Likewise, this magazine, published by Jehovah's Witnesses, aids the reader to see what the future holds

    *** Deuteronomy 18:20-22 ***

20 "'However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. 21 And in case you should say in your heart: "How shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?" 22 when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it.

    Prophet

Distinguishing the True From the False. In some cases, such as that of Moses, Elijah, Elisha, and Jesus, God's prophets performed miraculous works that attested to the genuineness of their message and office. Not all, however, are recorded as performing such powerful works. The three essentials for establishing the credentials of a true prophet, as given through Moses, were: The true prophet would speak in Jehovah's name; the things foretold would come to pass (De 18:20-22); and his prophesying must promote true worship, being in harmony with God's revealed word and commandments (De 13:1-4)...
... If his message contradicted God's revealed will and standards, he was false.

    *** Awake! 1993 March 22 pp.3-4 Why So Many False Alarms? ***

    [Footnotes]

Jehovah's Witnesses, in their eagerness for Jesus' second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect. Because of this, some have called them false prophets. Never in these instances, however, did they presume to originate predictions 'in the name of Jehovah.' Never did they say, 'These are the words of Jehovah.'
