IT'S OFFICIAL - I LEFT THE BORG!
by doubtful ini had my "awakening" about a year ago, after spending my entire adolescent life feeling as if i was the only one among my associates with my head screwed on straight.
i was appalled by the nearly universal ignorance and deplorable close-mindedness and stupidty of the jws, the arbitrary dismissal of all scientific evidence as mere "human speculation", etc.
the 2008 change in the definition of the "generation" (at age 18) is what made me seriously commit to an investigation of my long held beliefs, a belief system and world view that had been permanently graphed onto my still developing brain as an infant.. some things the bee hive subscribe to are so irrational, yet i still held firmly to the belief that they must have the "truth", since i still believed in the bible as the inerrant, completely inspired word of god, and jws were the religion that most stringently adhered to actual bible teachings in a majority of cases - ie - no hellfire, no immortal soul, no trinity, etc... after an exhaustive study of the organization's origins in the russell and rutherford eras, and their history of constantly revised doctrines, failed predictions, and absurd beliefs subsequently abandoned and revised only after the passing of time deemed them impossible, i came to the conclusion that they were not "god's channel", and they certainly had no claim to exclusivity as "god's only chosen people who would survive destruction".... so that lead me to the next logical assumption..if not even the jws have the truth, and all the other christian denominations grossly misrepresent biblical teachings and distort the teachings of christ, and compromise on the principles he taughts us to abide by...then god has no earthly organization..he has abandoned us to our own devices...he has left us all alone, and he has left us in this state of affairs for at least the last 2,000 years... after moving beyond the the typical jw dismisal of all science that could possibly contradict the bible and their beliefs, i took up an objective, unbiased, study of science...and what i discovered is that without any presupositional limitations to one's critical analysis of the fact...science's theory of evolution is the best explanation for the diversity and nature of biological life around us...i also discovered that although there is dispute among scientists as to the explanation for evolution or the origin of life itself...that there is no dispute as to the validity of evolution.. the fact that evolution happened and continues to happen before our very eyes is incontrovertible...absolutely indisputable when objectively evaluating all the mountains of evidence..multiple lines of evidence that all converge at one point...common descent..as but one example - the anatomical distinction between homo sapiens sapiens and homo sapien neanderthalis emerge at a certain point in the fossil record..and not coincidentally the mapping of the neanderthal and modern human genomes point to a genetic divergence at the exact same time as the fossil record indicates!.

JWs - The worlds most ardent supporters of the Death Penalty
by doubtful inanother take away from the recent special day assembly was how the speakers kept demeaning the whole concept of prisons as institutions for criminals.
according to the speaker, the justice system was a total failure, and prisons are an epic failure, because all they do is teach criminals even more about crime, and they all come out of prison worse than before.
(j-dubs love speaking in absolutes).

JWs and Infant Weddings - Marry as young as legally possible
by doubtful init sickens me to hear the venemous propoganda against the evils of higher education.
they talk so much about how it consumes valuable time during one's youth - how it takes away time from pursuing spiritual goals like pioneer service, missionary service, mts, bethel, etc..that's one of their biggest talking points in their argument against a college education.
their other point is that we shouldn't be preparing for a long stay in this system, so why the need to prepare for a lucrative and satisfying career by attending college for 4 years, when time is running out, and the big a is literally right around the corner...it shows a lack of faith in jah's promises and a materialistic attitude..etc.. yet..they never say anything about the countless thousands of teenage or near-teenage weddings!

Doubtful's Review of Special Day Assembly
by doubtful ini hate assemblies.
i can't stand the contrived, rehearsed, robotic sound of the interviews and experiences.
i can't stand the repeated references to the fds, and i especially can't stand the college education bashing that seems to be thrown in there in just about every other talk.. here's my assesment of the assembly:.

When Jesus said THIS...that pesky little word..
by doubtful indue to haste, i don't have time to cite texts, but perhaps others can do that for me, assuming i don't get a chance to do later on this evening.
but jesus, when asked about his second coming and of the conclusion of the system of things, he listed a series of portents as we all know, which concluded with multiple celestial phenomena, which according to him, were to be visible to all, just like lighting from one end of the sky to the other.
he then said that "this generation", referring to his generation of that time, would by no means pass away?

Noah's Missing Dove, Tower of Babel and Sumer
by doubtful ini was reading genesis again today - chapter 8 and 9. and here are two additional curiosities i found now that the blinders are off.. 8:12 - apparently noah releases this mischevious explorer dove, who in verse 12, ends up never coming back.
this raises three questions.
for one, why would noah have to send out a bird three times to explore for dry land in order to see if it was safe to exit the ark?

by doubtful inthis post is going to seem erratic to some, but i'm afraid it's the best i can do.
i can only write on this board during the spare moments i have when my mother is not in the home.
so i need to get as much info in per thread as possible given the time constraints.

What are the people at Bethel like? What's the GB like?
by doubtful ini can't even count the number of times i've heard people say how incredibly humble and down-to-earth and caring the exectuives at bethel are.
i've had one first person encounter with a gb member..i forget his name although i would be able to identify him in a picture.
he did seem genuinely nice.

Did the Israelites lay eggs like reptiles?
by doubtful ini'm a newbie bible skeptic, but whenever i read the exodus account, i always had trouble swallowing the idea that a family of 70 people could possibly mushroom into a population of anywhere between 2-3 million in a matter of 215 years - (per the watchtower's timeline).
as i said before, math is not my strong suit, but here i will show my calculations regarding the possibility of this account, using the society's timeline.
i will ignore the fact that the bible says the nation of israel was in bondage in egypt for 400 years, and will instead use the 215 year timeframe, also because this harmonizes with the four generations from levi to moses.
