"Worldlings" - What was your opinion when you were in the Org?
by Jerohobobonadad inhello all.. although never a fully paid up, dunked member of the club, i was at times very keen on the whole jw thang.. when i was in, i thought all worldly people were lying, cheating, alcohol and drug addicted, sex obsessed gambling criminals who should be treated with ,at least a very high degree of suspicion.
as per the classic pictures in the 80's books - all women looked like hookers, all men were pictured smoking or with a whisky bottle.. did others here have similar opinions.. i remember being 8 or 9 and my idea of a worldly man was a picture in the pale blue (creation book) or the red one (dunno the name) - i'll try and scan the picture i mean one day, it's brilliant.
it is a chap with a black moustache and a white shirt sat at a circular table looking all forlorn.

Need Help - Best Course to Reduce Gullibility
by Satanus insome friends of mine have a fairly smart kid, but he is a bit gullible.
he tends to pick up things like from tv adds or stuff from his peers.
since he is going to college or university, i was wondering what would be a good course for him to take to wise him up a bit and be more his own person.

Odd announcements for disfellowshipping
by Jerohobobonadad ini've not heard a great deal of df announcements to be fair, but i remember when i was about 9 or 10, i was visiting a friend during the summer vacation.
at the midweek meeting, his elder dad got up to give an announcement.
he began by mentioning a large plant, from the cities botanical gardens that had made the news, that flowered once every 50 years.

Walking Round London Town
by slimboyfat ini love the london accent!
it just speaks to tremendous cynicism about everything, and overarching confidence that everything of significance in life has already been cracked, to be explained to outsiders - if they can be bothered.
non-londoners are clearly naive by comparison.

Child sex-abuse database?
by Jerohobobonadad inhi all.. just read the post about the court ruling in california.. i may be remembering incorrectly, but when that tv programme about child abuse was aired in the uk (early 2000's), i think the spokespeople denied the existence of a database.
my elder dad was also adamant that there was no database and i am 110% certain he was not lying to me.. how do we know it exists?
what is to prevent the wtbts simply destroying it or hiding it amongst one of it's corporations either in the us or abroad?.

Strange Experiences
by Jerohobobonadad inhello all i hope you are well.. i've had very strange experiences recently.. i've had discussions with a few friends, who i would never have thought would say anything against da troof, who agree with all i've said about the inaccuracies of the org and said things i hadn't realised.. i've had discussions with one of my siblings and they said they didn't believe any of the wtbts teachings, then later that week had discussions with my parents with sibling present, where sibling has sided with parents and disagreed with everything i've said, even though they agreed a few days before.. i've had discussions with a friend, who hasn't been to meetings for ages, say how disappointed they were with some of our friends who have stopped going to meetings.
the friend could only talk about when the big a would come - why don't they go back to the org then?.
i have learnt recently to never be amazed by the ability for rational humans to state beliefs in private, yet publicly say the absolute opposite.. i feel as though i'm on the outside looking in when i talk to these people.
