Sounds just like the oh so loving borg! I had been off work for over a year, and just needed a final ok from a doctor to go back to work. I couldn't come up with it. So I turned to the elders, and ask if the congregations could help out. Even though I told them I would be able to repay them within a month of going back to work. All I got was a very cold NO! It would not have hurt so much, but up until I had to take off work, I had been putting my 100 hours a month, donating quite a bit to the congregations. And working hard at Ca's, Dc's, and anything else I was asked to do! -

What is their official explanation for not allowing beards?
by keyser soze ini ask because my gf, who knows all about my jw upbringing, convinced me to grow a goatee, just to see how it looks.
we both decided it looked good so i decided to keep it.
i tried to explain to her that as a jw, i wasn't allowed to grow one, but then drew a blank when she asked me why.

There is a sister in the congregations I am stuck in, that claps so hard, it almost sounds like she has a couple of blocks to clap with! Long and hard! And it's a tiny kh!

Can disassociated ones get reinstated without proving repentance?
by maksutov inone of the jw high-ups questioned by the australian royal commission (i think it was o'brien) stated that those who had disassociated (as opposed to being disfellowshipped) do not have to undergo a lengthy reinstatement procedure of proving repentance over many months, but can simply ask to be reinstated immediately.
is this true?
has anyone heard of this ever happening?.

In my years, I have ssen many da themselves. And a few return. Most of the returning da's, took longer to be reinstated, and even longer on getting any privileges back! It all depends on the WHY! If someone joined say the army, it may take a long time, and may never get to be much more than a seat filler. Then, there's the so called apostates, it all depends, if they were active in trying to turn others, or getting in the news etc, about what they believed. If one kept their ideals to themselves, then confessed later that they were misled. And it also depends on the body of goof balls "elders" you deal with!

Dragging Jehovah's name trough the mud!
by truthseekeriam inlistening to the first survivor testify to the australian royal commission really brought back some feelings i had put aside.. the feelings of guilt you feel for doing the right thing is extremely hard even when you know it's illogical it doesn't stop the abuse you do to yourself with these toxic thoughts of "dragging jehovah's name through the mud" i guess it doesn't help that you have the elders freaking out saying "reproach, reproach...this is bad!!
it took quite awhile for me to come to terms with how completely ridicules it is to think jehovah would want this hidden.
the truth is the religion wants it hidden and they are perfectly fine with destroying lives along the way!!

Two young "brothers" robbed a small store, some years ago. As the police were cuffing them a "sister" drives up, and after hearing what was going on, she starts yelling, "They didn't do it, they are JW's" She carried on for 10 minutes or more! So it of course made front page headlines! And the "elders & co" were so mad! We had a special meeting, going over what not to do, in cases like that! -

Has the WT ever said it's okay to steak rare?
by neverendingjourney ini'm revisiting an old topic here, but this was a subject of much confusion for me when i was still a witness.
i went to a spanish congregation in the u.s. and it seemed to be taken for granted by most that you needed to cook beef thoroughly to "get rid" of the blood.
i was surprised when i learned that folks in the english speaking hall would order a steak medium-rare and think nothing of it.. it wasn't until after i left the witnesses that it started to occur to me that if the red fluid that was present when you'd cut the beef was blood, cooking it thoroughly wouldn't get rid of it, it'd just cook it and transform it into another color.

Thanks Blondie! I knew when I read the question, something was in print from the early 70's, but you kept me from digging! -

Need Help! JW Grandmother (may be) Going to Court for Visitation
by Expanded-Mind ini am hoping someone may be able to give me some guidance on behalf of my son.
my ex-wife, who remains a jw, is threatening to go to court to get visitation with our 5 year old grandchild.
she had regular visits with our grandchild, but when my son (no longer a jw) and his wife (never a jw) found out that his mother was teaching their daughter the jw religion without their permission and even telling our grandchild not to tell their parents... well to say the least, that was a game-changer.

The state I live in had passed grandparents rights laws, snd they lasted untill someone fought it to the state supreme court. The law was thrown out! Few states allow such rights!
