Try out Ubuntu Operating System

hi everyone,.

just wanted to encourage y'all to try out ubuntu, the free and amazing operating system (alternative to windows) at ubuntu.com .

i can help anyone if they don't know how to install it.. also, don't forget to use openoffice.org office suite over microsoft office.

Good susggestion...I use many flavors of Linux...check out this link for the latest on almost all distros..Ubuntu is Top two distro.

How's the weather in your area?

here in nc it's snowing, about 6" so far.

It's 66 and breezy here in SW Florida...half way between Sarasota and Fort Myers:)

A work mate of mine who is still active did not shave for a couple of days this week and was asked by an elder at work if he was being "rebellious"! It did not set right with him but he had to keep silent for the most part...but tried to justify why he had not shaved.

i was not much more than 16 when i became interested in the jws.

i was an idealistic, unrealistic (read, romantic) kid, concerned at the suffering of so many people as a result of ww2 and its aftermath.. i guess that made me an ideal target for the kingdom message.

but strangely the person who told me about the witnesses wasn't one.. where i worked, we often had quite deep discussions during morning tea breaks, and a non-witness kept bringing up the ideas of the witnesses.

But no, that’s not good enough for these guys – they’ve got to drive you out and try to hurt you, when you stop believing that they have the truth.

Good point! And this is in my opinion the real problem.

They go out of their way to harm you!
they are rabid dogs and need to be put down (symbolically that is):)

if one reads genesis from the first chapter through the end with an open mind, it is clear that not only is it not true, but that god is potrayed as a cruel, petty, childish micromanaging tyrant.

if one continues reading the ot this is just further solidified.

So to conclude I would say the OT cannot be trusted to formulate a personality for God. It was written by men to control women and the vulnerable, I don't believe at all it's from God the creator.

Are Men's Rights Laughable?

reading over the woody allen thread i noticed a couple things but didn't want to side track the "discussion".

1) woody allen is creepy.

2) nobody really seemed to care that his ex-wife was abusive towards her children.. an example i think is perfect was the release of twilight where you would see lineups of 30-40 year old women making very inappropriate comments about a 16 year old boy.

Beard or no beard?

so i already moved out of the house, but until the elders don't give me (supposedly) the letter inviting me to a jc and then me not going, i am still a witness and my mom can still talk to me.

my dad wants us to meet, but my mom had said that if i have my beard she might not want to see me (she is a completely blinded jw... beards = apostate = i am a horrible human being).

so... my question is, given that i can grow it later, should i shave it off so my mom feels more comfortable?

Short answer is NO!

If you shave it...what will it accomplish?

If you are shaving so she will not talk about jw religious beliefs, then u are the only one making a personal adjustment.

Your age may dictate what you do to please your mother...based how much control she has over your personal decisions.

I kept my beard on, although it was neatly trimmed. My mom quickly got over it with some talk about how many have a beard this day and age. Even JWS.

It is my experience most mothers are not going to throw a stone at their own flesh and blood unless their attitude is offensive. Your mom may be different.

So to me the decision would be, what affect will keeping it on have on the visit? Will u feel uncomfortable? Then shave it so the time spent will not be causing tension.

Mormon leaders ordered to appear at a Brititish court over claims the organisations teachings amount to fraud....

according to the english press this morning mr phillips the head of the mormon church has been summoned to appear in court on the fraud act of 2006 which prohibits false representation being made that causes someone to loose money.. " this has been a very seriouse matter that has been looked at with extreme detail" prosecutors comment.. its interesting that the act is from 2006 and amoung other charges is the authentisity of the book...... .
