  Impact of GDPR on WT HQ and EU branches?

  curious if any of our eu-based members (especially those still in) have heard anything from official wt channels on how the organisation plans to be in compliance with gdpr ("general data protection regulations") by may 2018?

  it's my understanding that religious organisations must comply, and that religious data is treated a "protected" and therefore subject to some enhance requirements.. specifically, how will they comply with the following requirements:.

  you must disclose to the individual: what data you collect on them, why, and what you do with the data (including what other parties receive the data and what they do with it).

  Good point raised respectfulobserver. I cannot wait to see how this evolves.

  Deadline for compliance is May 25 this year. Stiff penalties and fines are in the face of those that do not comply after that date (20million EUR or 4 per cent of global annual turnover, whichever is higher). Firms like facebook/ Google will be most affected. They are literally making money from nothing by selling our freely supplied data to targeted advertising companies at their interest. Also, GDPR breaches must be reported within 72 hours of an incident.

  Can you believe among other things THIS is said:

  No mention that I noticed on how they treat data collected during door to door service.

  What Made You Decide To Finally Leave The Organization?

  The fact that organ transplants were not allowed for a period of time and that was overturned at some point. I read about someone that lost a family member a month before the small “Questions from readers??” Section at the end of a Wt made transplants a personal choice. It was so little most people would’ve missed it. I was blown over.

  I mentioned it at a meeting with elders I had for an unrelated reason and the college dropout elder said the WT was right to make that change because the technology had developed enough to clean blood properly out of organs and thUS it was a wise and informed decision.

  But what about the family that lost a relative a month prior to the WT déçiding this. It’s amazing how people can justify lost lives with very little empathy and then call themselves God’s shepherds.

  something just dawned on me today as i processed my assimilation into the real world (thanks to our new poster, @jester, giving me a major throwback to my first post).. when you're a jehovah's witness, you really are in some sort of la la land.

  things which are perfectly normal are acts of eating from the table of the demons.

  things which are horribly grotesque and extremely unjust are branded as "righteousness".

  Great post Wakemeup!

  Even after 6 years away from the org, my mind is still boggled about how intelligent, empathetic people can be turned to behave in a ludicrous fashion. But then of course - its' a cult!

  It makes me wonder sometimes - did the founders of the religion actually decide ahead to introduce tried-and-tested cult methods within the organization, or did these rules, thinking/mentality evolve as time went on.

  my grandfather is a longtime jw with advanced parkinson's.

  on the advice of a good friend mine who is inactive but not "out" i went to visit him monday and we talked for awhile.

  his health isn't well, but he was happy to see me.

  Saethydd go see your grandpa again if you feel like it. There's very little anyone can do to shake a JW living in alternate reality I've realized. Focus is to take care of your mental health and do what you feel right in this circumstance.

  hi all.. it's being a while that i don't share in the forum.

  after moving to another country and finding a job, i asked my congregation in my country to send my publishing card here.

  once i did it, i stopped attending meetings.

  Congratulations!! I did the same as you 6 years ago and dread to think of what it would be like if I hadn’t made this leap. Life is so much more worth living without constraining, restraining people watching over you and your having to pretend to be someone you’re not!
