  i am going to engage on a trip to the past and share with you some of the matters that marked the beginning of the jws persecution in cuba.

  you will be surprised that the pattern that was followed is very similar to what happened in other dictatorial countries.. in the cuban case, i am going to surprise you and tell you that like what happened with hitler; the wt was partially responsible for their clash and confrontation with the cuban government.

  during the early 60s the revolution was fighting for survival and they were willing and ready to demolish any perceived enemy to their cause.. a prime example was their war against the catholic church that was the most influential religious entity in the country; it took the supreme leader only a few public discourses to send the vast majority of clergy packing and back to their country, in this case spain.. the jehovah’s witnesses were an insignificant minority but they over estimated their importance and displayed a belligerent attitude, it was known that this was a us based religion and an easy target to connect them with the cia.

  Since Americans are unable to visit Cuba (or were for a LONG time), i'd be interested to hear about what happened with the JWS in Cuba. I'm sure that Castro did not kow-tow to them like the USA does to every crazy cult on the planet (religious freedom, etc.).

  I've heard lots about Cuba, and the people, what it's like there, from friends who vacation there. (I'm Canadian, so we have no problem with Cuba.) But they are not, and never have been JWS. So, I've heard nothing ... no news from Cuba ... about the Jehovah's Witnesses.

  edit: I want to hear about this:

  The case went badly for the WT due to the fact the Government was able to show that the WT was just a publishing house and that they were never registered as anything else, certainly not a religion.

  i was browsing through stuff on jw.org recently and ran across some expressions that really grate on my nerves: loyal love, loving-care, and loving-kindness, as in: "please exercise loving-kindness toward your servant.

  " who talks like that?

  Types attracted to the sect known as jehovahs witnesses.

  l have observed the types of people attracted to the sect are many times unbalanced,unstable,emotionally insecure types.the jdubs seem to home in like vulchers circling the prey ,preying on the vulnerables.they tried it on me when my father who was an elder died.promising that if you become a dub you will one day see him again.l said how can you promise that when you keep making false misleading predictions.l was wondering if others have observed this phenomenon.

  Yes. The converts I knew were single parents, and addicts who were looking for something to hold onto. You're so right. They prey on people who are looking for hope, and salvation (whatever that is).

  Would it be useful to have a short series of evolution 'postcards'? Just the main bullet points in a short word, pig picture format?

  Nic, I think that's a good idea. Stuff that doesn't make folks feel defensive,,, perhaps easy facts that can be googled and researched? Now, that's what I'm talking about ... brainstorming. : ))

  I think if a member wishes to feature a video in a thread, that's great! As for fomenting loyalties to 'this or that' youtube channel ... well, it's always felt safe here, because the forum is a neutral place.
  
  We used to have an expression, back in the day "Let's NOT, and say we did." So let's NOT discuss the virtues of any youtube people vs another. Rather, let's celebrate the enjoyable, instructional and FUNNY vids.

  we have all become familiar with the use of dna in forensics and paternity disputes.

  all humans share 99.9% of their genome in common, but that still leaves plenty room for variation.. geneticists are able to study sections of dna that identify an individual and their closest relatives.

  mostly these genetic markers are found in our non-coding dna such as the sections of code known as transposons.. one type of transposon is known as the alu element.

  so what do most people get after living 70-80 years?.

  a 5-10 minutes eulogy.

  I love old graveyards (we have some old ones here), and have some pics of interesting tombstones. I have one pic, of me, leaning on a gravestone with my name on it (my great-grandma, who was NOT a JW, but considered a WITCH *huge grin*).

  I have to say, I never heard of an "eulogy" being given at a JW memorial service. That is, people who were friends or family, relating something about the person. A few sentences, by the elder giving the 'service'. is not considered an eulogy,. in the common sense.

  I've decided, many years ago, that I will never participate in any JW-related death rituals, from the 'visitation' at the funeral home, to the memorial service. I honour people in life; the rituals after death are for the survivors. That group will only punish and exclude me, so sharing their rituals will only bring more pain. Better to experience that alone, than suffer their neglect / abuse. xx tal
