in communist east germany (gdr) writers were provided with a 'helper' - often a stasi agent - who would 'assist' the work through to publication.. poet and novelist gunter kunert described how this led to a sort of self-censorship.

it reminded me very much of the way jws can be trained to accept outrageous restrictions while imagining they are making free choices.. -----------------------------------------------------------------.

Getting people to control their own idea's to censor themselves is the ultimate way to control them. My loved ones are always telling me to hush up. they think Jehovah wants us to censor ourselves. We must honour God's arrangenment and always speak good of elders, CO's and the GB.

It's amazing how many succumbe to this strategy, whether it be politics or religion. Very intelligent individuals, can be manipulated by this form of control, because it is so incidious.

Well promoted cofty, I would rather read that than Dawkins. Do I really have to read Ch 3?

Advise needed please

dear forumites, i need your advise please.. i would like to write a letter to the world headquarters of the jehovah's witnesses regarding a subject that i've published an article recently.

i would like to draw the attention of the gb to said article, which i will send in print form (therefore, no attention would be drawn to the website where it was published).. naturally, because i am a jehovah's witness in good standing in the congregation and what i'll be discussing in my letter will be a dissenting view from the official doctrine/practice, i want to protect my identity and i don't want to be harassed by elders or subjected to any sort of judicial investigation.

nevertheless, i would be very interested in reading their response (if any) to my letter.. how can i do that?

they don't like associating with atheists or someone like me.

I love cofty's objections, it's great he actually helps me to feel good about why I have a different belief to him. You may not be my mother, but you endorse me in other ways on different threads. I love Adam to bits also.

I don't see posters with labels. They are all individuals to me. They are my new circle of friends, and part of my exit plan. When I read these God vs Atheist threads it helps me get to know posters. Many are recovering, upset, and young too. We are all at different stages emotionally and spiritually.

How jw parents do their best to make their some feel guilt

i've got a 6 years old brother who recently expressed his concerns about my spirituality.

he said that he had a dream about me being dead (i am at college, far away from my parents).

he also told my parents that he was afraid i would no longer be a jw and in that case he wouldn't hug me again anymore; and that he was crying and felt very sad.. my dad called me today and told me all this and more.

This not on at all. I have never been like that with my kids. My daughter left and I supported her. She was open with me why she left and confided in me. She reasoned really well and I could not come up with an objection she was right.

Our relationship is fab.

Question for believers: on which Heavenly "Day" did God create humans?

simple question here on genesis chronology and how god counts heavenly days (jws seemingly believe in a conversion factor of 'one god day is equal to 1,000 human years', based on 2nd peter).. genesis 2:1-2 says this (niv):.

1 thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.. 2 by the seventh day god had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.

3 then god blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.. day seven was the sabbath, the day of rest from all work, specifically from engaging in creative activities (jews observe the sabbath specifically because of the words found in genesis 2:2).. however, god's not quite done creating things, since genesis continues with this, on day eight (8), the day after the sabbath:.

Tammy, I checked out the sites. Evidently this Olam Haba, is a sect of Judaism. It's quite contraversial from what I can see. This doctrine of Olam Haba, is not taught in synagogues or Jewish schools, in Isreal, Australia, US, or UK from my experience.

Looks a lot like the Mormons and JWs to me. Be careful Tammy. Most common Jewish doctrine is the Messiah will raise the dead when he comes. Nothing about afterlife (Olam Haba)

Jewish beliefs about Gan Eden-Tammy

We were not taught that. But we were taught to pronounnce God's name as Jehovah in English and Yehovah in Hebrew. We were also taught the Messiah would raise the dead.

I don't know any Jews that were taught Eden was a spiritual garden. Kate xx

because most of this is a mental exercise realizing that your new knowledge, the mental side of things, is what makes it so hard to preach after learning ttatt.

what presentations have you used in field service as a fader to preach the good news without preaching jw propaganda?.

I would never suggest that I would call back, and I never left literature. One lady said to me "I don't mind your lot coming round for a chat, but I can't stand those Jehovah's Witnesses".-phizzy

WTS overboard w/suggested presentation

the nov 2013 km contains an article that is ridiculous in its level of minutae.. they focus on the word "because".

they tell jws to use the word "because" when explaining why they're at the homeowner's door.

writing department, you wrote an article on the use of the word "because"?
