I'am from germany.
I made a excel list and put all merges and all new ones in - but only from 2015 - 2017
2015 - 68 merged into 34 = 34 closed (7 new - only 1 german)
2016 - 120 merged into 60 = 60 closed (29 new - only 1 german)
2017 (until today) - 104 merged into 52 = 52 closed (24 new - 0 german)
=========================================================
So the number 252 or 278 ones closed ist from 2006 - 2017.
=========================================================
Yes, the counting is for calendar years.

Anyone from Germany here? I am curious if it just might be that they closed down a lot of foreign language congregations? They did that in the Netherlands before.NO. Only 14 foreign languages congregations closed from 2015 - 2017 .

The redditor is German, and speaks of resistance inside Bethel (love the terminology). He indicates the opposite - i.e. that foreign group numbers are being used to prop up the number of total congregations, while the reality is a decrease in regular congregations.That's right.
146 closed between 2015 and 2017 (2017 still not complete).
60 new ones - 2 germans, 53 foreign languages congregations, 5 sign language congregations.

"aww, But it's not MY fault, someone else is to blame!"
by stuckinarut2 ini was just thinking about the account of adam and eve, and how they both attempted to 'pass the buck', or shift the blame to someone else.
eve to the snake, and adam to eve.... does that sound familiar??.
the society has never taken ownership of its mistakes!

YPA change of picture
by dozy inanybody got any idea why the cover picture on the young people ask book was changed?
they removed the picture of the boy bottom right & superimposed a different head.
maybe the guy got dfd or maybe it was to change it to an asian guy rather than 2 caucasians?

"Circumcision is a sign to set you apart from the people of the nations"
by stuckinarut2 inwe know that the hebrew scriptures, or old testament states that the practice of circumcision (of males) was supposed to be yet another sign that set the jews apart from the "people of the nations".
but apart from so many odd things, how dumb is this?.
i mean, how did someone know if a male was circumcised or not??

...Did people meet each other while walking in the desert , drops their pants, or lift their robes just to show each other their penis? "Now you can see from which nation I have come"
So stupid....Have a close look to Abraham - this was normal at his time
(Genesis 24:1-3) Now Abraham was old, advanced in years; and Jehovah had blessed Abraham in everything. 2 Hence Abraham said to his servant, the oldest one of his household, who was managing all he had: “Put your hand, please, under my thigh, 3 as I must have you swear by Jehovah, the God of the heavens and the God of the earth, . . .
(Genesis 24:9) With that the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter.
Or Jacob:(Genesis 47:29) Gradually the days approached for Israel to die. So he called his son Joseph and said to him: “If, now, I have found favor in your eyes, place your hand, please, under my thigh, and you must exercise loving-kindness and trustworthiness toward me. (Please, do not bury me in Egypt.)

Maybe they will shift into more social engagement.
First only with JWs - singing and dancing to "kingdom"-songs, eating and drinking together in the hall.
Later they will invite also non JWs to such gatherings.
Prayers will end with a loud "hallelu JAH".
