Judge Rutherford did not know he was under the New Covenant in... 1929
by objectivetruth inthe new covenant is the single most important, claim to fame that jehovah's witnesses (the governing body) have.
in the 2014 watchtower 10/15 "you will become a kingdom of priests" the watchtower says the following :.
"by means of the new covenant, both jews and uncircumcised gentiles would have an equal opportunity to be heirs of gods kingdom, because their circumcision is that of the heart by spirit and not by a written code.

Utilitarianism - Is it Good or Evil?
by objectivetruth inwhat are your thoughts on utilitarianism, is it at certain times a necessary evil?
is there any way for society to function without it?.
a very simple example.. 10 men are leading a group of men on a crime spree, they are engaging in robbery & murder frequently..arresting these men is not an option, and if you kill the 10 group leaders, the rest of the group (4o members) will seek revenge.

Update to Linguistics Publications Software Build
by objectivetruth ina few weeks ago, i mentioned a new tool that i started building which will track wording changes and find trends highlighting propoganda techniques in the wt publications... this is an update.. 1. a fellow jwn member has joined the project, (more like he recruited me to join his already existing project).. 2. we have made some great progress.
the most exciting news is that we now have a complete text catalog of all watchtower publications from the 1870's to 2014.. 3. we are building an online tool which will be "invite only" (the site will be free, but certain areas will only be accessible to approved individuals) .
this tool will be similar to wol.jw.org , with 1 main difference.. there will be no "newspeak" tactics employed on this site.

The Mahabharata (Ancient Hindu Scripture) and The Book of Enoch
by objectivetruth init's really fascinating to discover the similarities in ancient texts, in another thread howthebiblewascreated pointed out similarities in the epic of gilgamesh and genesis 8... as a naive jw, i feared, and viewed hinduism as a polytheistic religion that essentially worshipped demons.. to my relative surprise, hinduism actually started off as a form monotheism, viewing brahman as the creater and god of the universe.
as judaism transitioned from a strict monotheistic religion to what is now called christianity, simply claiming that god manifests himself as multiple gods, hinduism now does the same.
in any case i'm very naive as to the beliefs of hinduism, so i won't discuss that any more.. comparing two ancient texts : the book of enoch & mahabharata a crazy narrative is found... 87.2 and i raised my eyes again to heaven, and saw in the vision, and behold, there came from heaven beings that were like white men.
