Witnesses believe in strong corporal punishment; you might do better reporting it to protective services. I think they'd back the dad probably not believing you since they consider you a "nonbeliever."

Why would a young sister marry an old brother?
by JH ini recall a ms brother about 62 years old dating and marrying a sister about 30 years younger.
i respect their choice and if they are in love, well good for them.
but i don't think it's to the best interest of the younger one...... do jw's accept bigger age differences in marriage than other religions?.

I don't understand it. I suppose they let themselves think that in the "new system" they'll both be young. My sister married a "brother" nearly old enough to be our grandfather; a former pioneer partner married a "brother" older than her parents. I think there's not much to pick from for young women in the borg.

Someone is Lying.....
by R.F. inso my ex called a little while ago.
she said she was calling to check on me out of concern.
i've been to 2 meetings in a month.

I think they all do this elaborate dance to convince each other how much they're doing to "help" you and show their "concern." The elders told my family that they'd visited us, phoned us, stopped by, talked to us, etc etc etc, when in fact we hadn't even had one phone call. (Much to my relief.) That was the first I realized they were a group of professional liars. Of course, my mother had to believe the Elders. You've got it right that with caller ID we can track this stuff now.

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?
by Black Man ini often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

Rich and Wendy Canola (not sure of spelling of last name), I think they learned Italian to serve in one of the Italian congregations. Bill and Roberta Little; Bill died a few years ago after working as an electrician and I think Roberta left Bethel. Anyone know them?
John Devine and his younger brother who I think was named Richard. Maybe one of their nephews is there now, too.

Baptism at age 11 next Saturday
by Fatfreek ini just learned that one of my grandsons (whom i've never met) will be baptized on saturday.
he will be twelve in november.
what's happening within the publishing company to inspire this sort of thing?

If there's a push toward increasing numbers by baptising younger and younger kids, I can see this backfiring. It's normal for teens to rebel or experiment with things outside their family. But in the wts, you have to disfellowship them if they're baptised. This could lead to a big drop in members as these kids grow up, are shunned by family, and then find their way outside the borg.

Baptism numbers down. Is this a worldwide trend?
by R.F. ini just found out that from the dc i was assigned to that 17 got baptized this year.
this was great news to me.. that is a huge decline from previous years, with the average each year being about 50-55 at the dcs.
i've noticed at the cas and sads the baptism numbers have decreased steadily over the years.

What did you like/hate about JW calendars?
by truthseeker infor me, every (other) saturday was magazine day.
the only marked date on the calendar was the memorial.. the nature scenes were ok when they had a nature theme.
i think the calendar is too small, boxes not big enough to write in..

The in-house, academic calendars where I work remind me of them; same background colors, same type. I still do a double take when I glance at them.

Speculation.....
by winnie inwith the settlement of the 17 child abuse cases, now that there is approx another 7000 pending lawsuits (or so i have read), if the wt settles (or loses) these cases if they ever reach the court rooms, what do you think the outcome would be??.
i think that (i'm praying it happens) this will ruin them financially and be the end of jw's..

I think they have so much money that it'll hurt their pride more than their bank balance. If it's widely publicized, it could hurt them some, but regular jw's have their heads in the sand; any negetive publicy will be twisted as persecution. The gb has them in such a brainwashed lock, they can't possibly acknowledge the truth.

That was so much fun! I've already passed the link on and can hear the Hallelujah chorus being played around the office.

On the application they should ask, "Is there any reason you could not do this job?" I saw that on a form recently and was surprised as I'd never seen it before. It would be good for this reason. If you can't do the job, don't apply.
