  i haven't associated with the jws for at least 6 months.

  they do not know that i am an apostate.

  maybe till just now becaue i was browsing reddit and stumbled upon a story from a paper about $4000 a day fine imposed upon watchtower.

  Theists, why does God allow suffering..

  ..specifically, the suffering of animals.

  you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.

  i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

  this thread may not be suitable for you.. last week i came upon a youtube video of darkmatter2525 about genesis 38. on the preface, it says that this particular chapter - genesis 38:- has been willfully left out by many “biblical stories for children”.

  true in its sense, the chapter goes on with some nasty stuff like judah, searching for prostitutes, and his own daughter in law tricking and seducing him to get pregnant.

  Yes, DarkMatter2525 and NonStampCollector were my two eye openers, on my way out.

  All my reverence for the Bible was splintered with these 2 youtube channels.

  Last week I came upon a youtube video of DarkMatter2525 about Genesis 38. On the preface, It says that this particular chapter - Genesis 38:- has been willfully left out by many “Biblical Stories for children”

  True in its sense, the chapter goes on with some nasty stuff like Judah, searching for prostitutes, and his own Daughter in law tricking and seducing him to get pregnant. (Again it’s the woman who instigates this act, as like in Lot’s story - the notorious Biblical style of humiliating women)

  Haven’t heard this story in Kingdom halls or in my prior churches and Sunday schools.

  Can anyone with a real open mind consider all these stuff to have been inspired by Holy Spirit (If that thing really exists?)

  how do we explain the marital role with what paul said in 1 cor.

  “but i want you to realize that the head of every man is christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of christ is god.” (niv).

  read a few chapters earlier at 1 corinthians 7 to see what paul does say about the relationships between husband and wife.

  god would not say: “you should not eat from the tree of good and bad, which would make you like me” because through jesus he said: ‘you must become like me by imitating the qualities of sun whose only concern is giving (of light and warmth) which means having no expectation of anything from anybody’ (mathew 5:44-48) .

  this also means we should have no human teachers because we can have answer to any questions by ourselves, through inference.

  (pro 25:2) how to go about inferring?
