i attended my first jw meeting recently.
first, i would like to say what i agree with about the jehovah's witnesses beliefs and practices.. 1. they don't consider israeli's as "god's chosen people" and they don't worship israel as some holy land filled with righteous jews (although there are some there) as most so-called "christians" (christian zionists) erroneously believe they are instead of the "hypocrites" and "vipers" that it is actually filled with.. 2. they don't celebrate "holidays" like easter and christmas which are, in fact, remnants of earlier pagan practices.. 3. they don't put nation before god and christ.
they don't believe in war or going to war because of some crazy government/cia secret agenda.
When I was new in USA, I went to the Field service without a coat and tie. I was offered a tie to wear, by the elder conducting the FS.
This was very odd to me because prior to that in India, we do not wear ties, coats and even shoes for Field service. No tuck in of shirts either !!
i ask this question for the following reason.
i was sitting at the kingdom hall thinking about all the rules, procedures, policies, teachings that each member must follow ......or else!.
at the watchtower study we are reminded of the paradise earth where we will all be the same and happy.
I have seen more depressed people in my congregations than normal members. Now I understand that desperate, lonely, Insecure and depressed people get into cults very easily.
All their Joy were momentary, just after a Bubbling public talk. Once they leave the hall the Joy vanishes and harsh reality sinks in.
This momentary joy is a result of Unnatural promises and illogical reasoning. If the things discussed were natural and practical, the Joy would linger forever.
if you had 2 minutes with an old witness friend or with a family member to convince them the 'truth' is a lie and the gb isnt being directed by god what would you say to get their attention that might make them question their beliefs?.
What would you do if you want to buy a car. Would you only read what the cars official website says or would you visit any Generic review sites like Edmunds or Carfax ?
Do you expect that Businesses would publicly display their past errors. If not why. Can the same be said of JW.org ?
i've come across a jw friendly article about watchtower predicting smartphones in the 20s.. .
of course, in the comments section there are a lot of jws freaking out saying "there is no doubt that this is the only true organization!
", "thanks jehovah that used his faithful and discreet slave to tell us some useful information about the future!
Well , during that time I think landline telephones as well as Wireless technology were already in use. So mixing both and foreseeing a new technology, is not a marvel.
Albert Einstein predicted that gravity bends Light. And this was technically proved several years later. So Einstein was guided by Holy spirit ?
can anyone explain to me please about the statue in the daniel prophecy coz i've always been curious about what people have discovered about it?
do the jws have the only explanation?.
I remember studying this Daniel Book with great reverence and admiration, when I was new in the cult.
There is an incidence in Daniels Book, that disturbed me a lot. Daniel is rescued from the Lion's den miraculously. OK. Then the King orders Daniels Conspirators and their family to be thrown into the Lions pit. But Why their families ?? . And Daniel, a righteous guy never objects to it
Now, I believe this book was written by some mindless person, just writing down his futuristic fantasies.
Trying to interpret the Book of Daniel... Well anyone can interpret any way they want it, tying all so called prophecies to any similar events.
recently i talked to an elder about this type of witnessing.
iāve known him for many years and he is a very honest upright man.
he marveled at how many people have become baptized in the last couple of years because of cart witnessing.
I have seen the most cart witnessing in New York city than anywhere else. Its purely a time counting strategy.
Ha...what an insult to Jesus and that Big J.
at that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from jehovahās organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.
its not such a big stretch of the imagination to think that jim jones or david koresh used such reasoning to convince their followers to do what they did, to have absolute faith in what they were saying was from god.
When I was in, an elder used to tell me that we may be instructed by the WT to go to some remote islands to get saved, when Armageddon happens. Was quite thrilled by that, at that time.
anyone got any ideas on how to get kingdom melodies out of my head.
keep finding myself singing them without realising and it's getting annoying lol.
hopefully they'll disappear with time.
I had a Protestant background Prior to becoming a JW and those churches have live choir with fantastic tunes.
When I was new to the JW cult , I was really wondering if the songs sung in the KH were really songs. So boring, no live band - without any life or spirit . The background recorded music was so weird to me. And most of the dubs didn't catch up with that tune. Was funny many times.
Had never been impressed with any JW songs except one or two.
Time will make you forget those boring , depressing tunes.
because of this site i realized that there were many people who were active jehovahās witnesses really didnāt believe in god at all.
iām curious how many people believe in god?
iām not interested in debating why you shouldnāt have a belief in a god or should.
For me, people who invented cures for Malaria, Typhoid, Cholera, TB , Polio, Leprosy and for all those many tragic diseases and who invented antibiotic are GODS.
And people who serve humanity without any selfish reasons are Gods. Yes I believe in them.
