Majority of JWs do not know Bible. Their theology and faith is derived from publication of WT and they have very little understanding what is written in the Bible. As End-Day cult, their study revolves on several chapters and with it they think they earned reward for survival in Armageddon. If any JWs would study just OT & NT without any WT guides, they would see how defective is their faith and reasoning. However, they are not lead to think independently and in the late 1980's it was at least in my KH forbidden to study Bible on its own and could get someone accused of apostasy. I know people who were DFs on judicial committee on insisting to debate some fishy doctrines using only Bible. These people were kicked out just right there. -

Strange but Sad!
by John Aquila ini had a couple of elders come visit me about an hour ago.
they wanted to inform me that a brother who was well known throughout the circuit had died.
(i actually knew about it but did not go to the funeral) he was about to hit 90 years old, missed it by a few weeks.

I had in KH extremely zealous pioneer who would cover extremely difficult territories. Her husband was just regular dub, but she never missed any meeting. To everyone in the KH she was nice, especially to children. She had a son who was married and had a kid. Later he made another woman pregnant and was DF's for it. She shun him and his two children to the rest of her life. She would never talk and when the kids were calling her granny across the street, she pretended she does not hear/see them. She was very thorough in shunning her son and his two children until she died. She never reconciled. My aunt shunned her son once he DA with JWs. My ex-elder has a gay son, who they do not talk and he is forbidden to talk to them..
JW is not so loving religion. But people accept the membership and they pay it with broken family ties. After so many years of shunning, many people will move on and the damage is not repaired.

Book Burning and other burning of materials done by JW. Any experiences Please post
by adjusted knowledge inas a very young child i have memories of several book burnings done by jw families.
it wasn't something arranged by the congregation, but elders did participate in it.
it was actually scary for me as a child of only about 8 years old.

I never witnessed book burning, but I have heard about it in the 1970's in Czechoslovakia. They were some regular event when JWs would gather to burn things they considered demonic. We had one sister in the congregation who claimed that she had demonic painting and the elders agreed. They decided to burn it in the fireplace with the frame. I also heard that one couple burned gobelin tapestry they considered demonic or was from someone who became apostate. This was all in the late 1970's and early 1980's. -

Welfare and Witnesses
by adjusted knowledge ini'm ignorant to the social welfare programs outside the us, but listening to others i have to assume in europe it is more generous.
i've not had deep personal conversation with active witnesses for nearly 20 years.
last year i made contact with a family and some elders came to my house.

My cousin is an elder and he is on disability from the age 28. He never worked physically, but has plenty of time to milk welfare, free housing while doing all this field work for the least +/-25 years.
Elders in my KH was investigated for welfare fraud couple years ago. He and his wife claimed no income, so they got government housing and allowance. They both are active JWs with field service. However, they had under the table illegal income which was eventually traced by the tax agency and were charged with fraud. The city kicked them out of the public housing and they were also tried to run away to foreigner country. I could ask my mom how many of JWs in her congregation are on welfare and are capable to work.

What Jehovah's Witnesses need to do to become Mainstream
by FusionTheism ini was raised a jehovah's witness, so i know all the "ins-and-outs" of their theology and belief system..
in my view, they can become a part of mainstream christianity and lose their cult status by making just a few changes for the better:.
1: stop their severe shunning practices.

JW faith cannot become mainstream because its essential foundation and thinking is isolation, extremism, and anti-establishement. Many mainstream religions established and justified their existence by symbiosis with the executive government, as was the case with Roman and Greek Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, or Protestantism. JWs cannot become mainstream, because it will lose its anti-establishment appeal which is praised so much on the WT pedestal. Their faith is not built upon possibility to create executive government unlike other extreme evangelical and fundamentalist religions who would not have problem to establish ISIS version of christian theocracy. Even their version of 1000 millennial reign is naive the best.
JW cult fills the niche in religion demand, where people look into a faith which is not part of any political system. The issue of becoming mainstream religion was already debated decade ago and many ex-JWs believed that it will follow Mormon and 7DA church which are fairly mainstream churches. Nothing of this had happened, and I do not see it happening in any time soon.

"I cant wait to meet Abraham!"
by stuckinarut2 in"i can't wait to meet abraham" was the eager comment made by a young 7 year old witness girl.. when asked why, she said "because he was jehovahs friend, and he was even willing to kill his own son!".
this comment was said with joy and excitement!
she can't see the obvious issues with this?.

Questions about the Flood for Brother Jeramy
by cappytan inhow long did the flood last?how long can land vegetation survive submerged in seawater?how long can freshwater fish survive in saltwater?how old is human civilization?
what is the oldest settlement in south america?
how did those people get there from the middle east after the flood wiped out everything on the earth?.

There was agricultural civilization in interglacial period in Europe which was destroyed by cooling temperature of the northern hemisphere after 15000 BC. This civilization of hunters and gatherers left countless traces in Central Europe with various clay statues known as venuses (Venus of Wilensdorf , Dolni Vestonice, Landek) for their body shapes. These people lived 28000-18000 BC but disappeared in the last glacier period which lasted for another 7000 years. The glacial and interglacial period is well documented and highly visible in European and Northern American landscapes. Flora, fauna, and entire eco-climate had changed irreversibly. -

There is no whatsoever scientific proof on global flood in recent geological times. Hydroplate theory is a pseudoscientific concept easily rebuffed by earth science peer review material.
For example there is no discontinuity of forests in the northern hemisphere since the last ice age. Wood is well preserved to analyze all the tree rings as far as back as 8000 BC. We can even trace two major volcanic eruptions in the Bronze age (Thera and Hekkla) which happened around the so called Global Flood. These two major eruptions had left deep marks upon the atmosphere and on climate, such as decrease of temperature for several decades that science can even pinpoint them with accuracy of several years in Europe, Middle East, and Asia. There are so many issues with the global Flood in 2200BC that even mainstream churches (Catholic, European Protestants, and Orthodox) accepted it as a myth. The exceptions are fundamentalist evangelical churches having grassroots support in USA.

Well, I asked a question and his answer blew me away
by Lost his mind infirst time, been lurking for years, but i asked my husband who has been studying for 20 plus years if he has ever questioned those that were "teaching" him.
blew my mind.
i ask him all the questions that you have asked yourself, but he will not ask them.

Lost his mind... sorry for your spouse problem and I would like to welcome you on the board. It is hard to deal with JWs and they are irrational. Sometimes the divorce is the way out before the cult destroys both. However, have you tried to have one on one bible study without even touching anything published by WT? One thing is that JWs do not know much bible and their doctrines are irrational and contradicting. This could help him to see the fallacy of their reasoning.

WT cannot throw away 1914 nonsense. They will have to slowly dilute the meaning of the year and pushed into distant memory before they will remove it from their theology and totally get rid of it. It will be long process, but it seams that it started already in the mid 1990's with overlapping generations and they will eventually deny that they ever claim it as the start of the heavenly kingdom. WT still claimed in early 1920's that the end of the time started in 1799 in Napoleon's invasion of Rome.
