in classic star trek there was an episode entitled "the return of the archons" where the crew of the enterprise beamed down to a planet where the starship "archon" had last been reported, some time previously.
they found themselves in a stagnated victorian era society of people going mindlessly about their business, rattling off platitudes like "peace be with you, friend" to passers by.
the society turned out to be controlled by a supercomputer which had taken on the name (and projected image) of landrew (or landru), its creator some millennia previously.
I remember the episode well, and I have to agree. Unfortunately, I must have been invited to the wrong JW weddings. They never came close to the "festival" in the episode.

did you have a best friend at the kingdom hall, what happened to them, do you know where they are today ?
There was a MS I would go drinking with, but I wouldn't exactly say we were friends.
Walter

what was the first computer you ever owned?
for me it was the trs-80 model 1. i bought it for $10 at a second hand store when i was 10 years old.
took me forever to find info on the thing, an manual, and a patchcord to hook up a cassette deck.
Wow! Looks like I started late. My first mistress was an AST 486/50 with 24 MB RAM. I still have it, and it works well as an answering/fax machine.
I have 7 others besides it.

i've mentioned it a few times, but between the ages of 5-7 i had my two female cousins living with me.
my parents were doing them a favor by letting them live there, but what they didn't know was the prior sexual abuse and molestation by members of their/our family...well, it is in my opinion the trickle down theory of abuse and i also know and remember doing some of the same things with my own siblings even a couple years after they weren't there any more.. i often ask myself.
am i responsible for that?
Valis, It's never the victims fault. Being a victim of sexual abuse by 2 women when I was a pre-schooler, I can relate to what you're saying. And it DOES NOT mean that the victim will have the same tendencies later in life. In fact, there's nothing I hate worse than a pedophile.

in my year and a half as a member of a couple ex-jw forums i have seen what i perceive to be a massive error on both my part and the part of others.
the mistake is this: judgeing someone simply from their on-line personality and statements.
i see it time and time again.
Bradley, you're absolutely right that you can't REALLY get to know a person well online. We shouldn't judge people solely by what we see online, whether for good or for bad. I met someone on a discussion board, which led to many emails, chats, and phone calls. When we finally met in person, the reality was FAR different from the online persona, but in a very negative way.
I'm sure that's not the case with most people though.

looks like the letter writting campaign has paid off !!!!!!!!!!!!
the jw's have dropped costs, and there will be no exchange of money.
(which, yes, means i still will not receive my huge $5000.00 judgement) (thanks judge molloy!?

men or women who cheat on thier spouses, not just once, but repeatedly, with various people.
also, do you find those actions mature, or... immature?.
curious.
then man up and freakin leave the relationship!! is it that hard???
Yes, after many years, it can be very hard, for a number of reasons.
