Why did studying the Bible make him feel unworthy? Because his past life-style had violated many of God?s principles. Misuse of drugs, alcohol abuse, and various other degrading habits had brought him so low that on one occasion a policeman said to him: "Would you please tell me your home address? I just want to know where to send your corpse!"
Yeah, people who come into 'the truth' always have some dammed story, myself included. I admit it; I was depressed, desperate, dying for a way out of this world. The witnesses with they're 'persecution' nonsense made sense to me... I went hook line and sinker.
Until I went against the WTBTS and got medical attention for my depression.
Once you see that they control you through low-self esteem and hope for the future (that is utter nonsense), people get suckered in. I saw it with ALL the 'new recruits', so to speak. Some dammed story of how they're life was utter debachery (sp) and horror, until the sovergn lord jehover 'came' to them, and they listened... just like the days of noah...
Persecution complex. It gets you attention... something that depressed people want to hear. No wonder they don't want depressed people to get help! If they did, nobody would be left in the organization(buzzword).
I remember hearing all the 'demon' stories, and never believing them. I mean palease... the books were flyin' around the room, my head was turning around... whatever... just attention seeking. People sure loved those stories while in the group. I recall them hanging on every word... one in particular of a 'young' person who had this dammed demon story retold at the C.A. Everyone was in shock, and it was a real jolt to everyone... everyone was talking of it at lunch.
Personally, I thought it was just bullshit.
