hey bro, i just thought it may interest you to know that they read a letter last night describing how they need to build a new printing facility up at patterson that will be the size of two assembly halls.
they will be getting all new printing machines to be shipped from all over the world, and they will need many volunteers for the project to be completed by january 2004. and we should all realize that this is going to be at a tremendous cost, the buildings alone should cost about 60,000,000 dollars.
please start praying about what we can do, yada, yada, yada.
Also, maybe they're leaving NYC so that their new bethel recruits won't go partying so much in the big city....LOL.

I realize you said that as a joke, but I wonder how much those at the top obsess about controlling the behavior of their Bethel underlings...it would be so easy, in NYC to 'escape' to bars, nightclubs or parties and live a double life...and so hard to do so from out in the middle of nowhere.
not really sure what brought this on but lately i have been thinking about what i have done with my life and what i want to do with it.. as a jw we weren't really supposed to have dreams of the future unless it involved a paradise earth and immortality.
i can remember dreams of granduer in the entertainment field amongst other things.. i think it might be the fact that in a few years i will be at that *gasp* dreaded age (yeah its only 30 but its still a big deal for me) and feeling like i haven't accomplished anything with my life.
am i depressed?

Worried that you don't have a clue about being a grownup? OK, I'll let you in on a little secret normally not told to anyone under 35: Nobody has a clue. I kept thinking eventually I'd 'grow up' and be mature and figure it all out. Then I realized nobody knows more than I do. My parents, who I thought, as a child, knew what they were doing and had all the answers, were faking it!
My husband started college first time at 36 (for those of you for whom math is not a strong suit that's double the age of the typical incoming freshman). He graduated Summa with a 4.0 and is going to start grad school this fall at 41 (and going clear to PhD) in a prestigous program. I'm going into a PhD program, too. My parents think we've lost our minds. We figured out age doesn't matter. Just stop fretting and do what you want and what you love and let the rest figure itself out.
(You'll recover from the mid-20's angst...we all went thru it )
sadly, at times, we lose good posters because we have an acrimonious spirit.
i wonder whether we might actually debate or argue, simply for the thrill of trying to outdo the other person(s).

Just a note on an earlier comment...When neanderthal skeletons were first discovered over 100 yrs ago, one of the first ones was an older man who (medical professionals later explained) was actually deformed by arthritis...the "gnarled, stooped ape man" image that people have of them is incorrect and actually caused by that early misunderstanding.

i was always taught in the jw religion, that humans have really only been on earth for 5000 years or so... there is so much evidence of the neandertherdal people, with scientists finding many skulls, bones, & such, but scientists date these bones 100 thousand-millions of years old... the society used to always add that carbon dating is not accurate.
i also noticed that jws never talked about the dinosaurs much... what do you think??????

(let me just take a moment to say that the above site is from the Institute for Human Origins at Arizona State...where the guy who discovered Lucy now teaches, where I got to see the cast of her skeleton last spring, and where I will be attending grad school this fall! {I'm so excited!})

I'm sure you will thank your lucky stars when I say I don't have time to look up the info and post right now but you should be able to get a sufficient amount of good information about hominid evolution and types of dating used (it can get way more complicated - and expensive - than carbon dating these days), in a web search. Just be stick to ".edu" sites and avoid the religious zealots who care more about their doctrine than about the facts. Stick with "Physical Anthropology" sites. That's their specialty.
It's not just the Control (though it is that!)- it's their firm belief they have a God-given right to have that control...and that doing anything to loosen that control the tiniest bit is a sin against the Almighty Creator of the Universe.
