my mother told me today that she has recieved the new publication (i don't know the name of it yet) and it's all about knowing what basic doctrines jws believe in.

she told me this after she had said that she was being given it by a sister this afternoon.

i just can't believe it!

after sending the elders a letter (see http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/91796/1.ashx) we get a letter from elder s. that he understands that families are busy, can't be reached for short notice meetings, yada yada yada.

so they are setting another meeting for june 12. .

New Publications from Older Publications

in the past i have seen newer releases, that actually have been taken from older publications.

i have seen these newer releases, with new names, that have identical information with variations of chapter headings, etc.

i know i have some in my library, but can't remember which ones they are.

BTW, did the YPA book replace the YY book, or did it just add to the pile of teenage crap books?

I believe the YY book went out of print, so the YPA book was a replacement. It was actually a rewrite, however, not just a revision. Good catch on the Great Teacher book.

Some of those writers, such as the writer of 1 Timothy (which was not actually written by Paul), were definitely sexist. Others were fairly enlightened, at least for the time they lived in; Paul himself had no objection to women prophesying or praying in the church (see 1 Corinthians 11).

Also, the Bible (or properly speaking, the orthodox canon) does not represent the entire range of Christian experience in the first century. As Leolaia showed, groups such as the proto-gnostics were very strongly feminist; and they did leave behind writings, although the Church later chose to exclude those writing from the Bible.

Large portions of the Pay Attention to Daniel's Prophecy book were based on a book from the 50's; I can't remember the title for certain off-hand, but I think it was Your Will Be Done.

The Worship the True God book was a straightforward edit of United In Worship of the Only True God.

The recent Organized to Do Jehovah's Will, from what I've read on this site, is apparently also a basic edit of Organized to Accomplish Our MInistry.

Those are the only instances I can think of recently. There have been other cases where a new book replaced the function of an old book (Knowledge vs Live Forever; Benefit vs. Guidebook; etc) but those were actual rewrites, not just simple revisions.
