Did you have elders in your congregation that were in positions they could not handle? We used to have a school overseer that was one of the worst public speakers we ever had. Funny watching mothers faces while their child was being counseled on a point that the school overseer himself never mastered. Any other "mis-placed" stories?

I remember in the 80's thinking that the big A would be here and gone by 2000. I think like the vast majority of JW's, I never thought I would make it anyway.

I remember quite a few in Connecticut that were Mighty AutoParts franchisee's. It seemed quite profitable. There was also a company that sold bandaids etc...like firstaid cabinets that they kept stocked for you. I remember the original owner was a witness but something about him being caught on his boat with a "worldly" woman and was shortly thereafter disfellowshipped.

I knew they would treat me the way they did/do... But still kinda shocking because I helped so many of them by fixing their cars, helping them move, yadda yadda yadda.

Crazy JW Superstitions...
by Confucious inhey!
ok, we all know of this uncanny word play about not saying, "you were lucky," and not saying "bless you" after someone sneezes.
but this is a bizarre one i heard.

TV shows, coloring books, movies, library books all were considered as opeining avenues. I remember one CO came and I had invited a bible study that was progressing rapidly. Then the CO says during his talk that even bibles we had while in false religion could involke the demons. Needless to say that was the last time I saw that bible study ever again.

I remember one DO talking about how disgusting it was that the UN was so close to the WTBTS buildings etc. I remember UN bashing studies, then to find out they were "card carrying" members, for any reason, is appalling.

Another question for all you guys out there
by Lehaa inok time to be brutally honest.. what do guys think of women with tattoo's.
first thing that jumps into your head.. reason i ask is i'm getting my first one next week and was wondering what the general concensus is.. i am definately sure about doing it.
thought about it for years and it took me 6 months to find the design i wanted.

Is Virginity All It's Crack'd Up To Be?
by Englishman inseems to me that in the jw religion, virginity is considered to be an essential requirement for the born-into-its, right up until the time that they get married.
seems to me also, that the jw religion, while condemning fornication generally, sets greater store on females remaining intacto, as opposed to males, what with references to "old towels that any man can wipe his hands on" and the like.
very patriarchal.

There are many criterion for a good marriage mate. Good with money, good with kids, honest, hard working, good hygiene. How in the hell do you know if the sex you are going to have for the rest of your life is going to be any good? You always test drive a car before you buy it. You dont ask how many have test driven it before you.

Repetition in magazines and/or study articles Listing?
by robhic ini've read here on many occasions where the current wt article or an awake!
article was just recycled from an earlier publication.
for example purposes only, say a wt article from 2/15/04 was just a re-spun, change a few words here and there recycling of an earlier article from, say, awake!

It all seems to be the same drivel all the time anyway. The average JW doesnt keep up with reading the magazines. If it werent for the service meeting some woiuld never open them.
