I came in shortly after 75 so no I didnt believe in 75 rhetoric. My dad however had 1975 material taped on his bedroom mirror. He was not a JW but read the pubs all the time. He never became a JW. I did. I guess I had the extra gene for stupidity. LOL

my brother-in-law works in construction, and does the actual work.

The unwritted rule from the elders down was....dont do business with brothers. "Oh, of course they are honest and upright but it just prevents problems and complications" they would say.

How about Brother Neverknowhowhegotappointed : He is slovenly. His parts are very generic. You wonder how he ever got appointed. Then you remember he has a business and it provides a service that many of the elders would like to get cheap or free.

carl kunde dies at silverdome
by kilroy2 inmy old partner daryl kunde's father died at the silverdome assembly last week.
it seem's kind of ironic but about 11 years ago when i was still going to the assemblys, we were at the silver dome and 8 old people collapsed from the heat.
[there is not air in the dome] this made me mad and i vented to daryl the monday after the assembly.

I remember being at an assembly at the civic center in Providence RI. One year the AC broke down. It was horrible. People were fainting. I wonder how many got baptized just to cool down. LOL !!

I met many of the GB since our PO had many bethel ties. We had Carey Barber give our memorial talk one year. Karl Klein was with us at least twice a year. Schroeder, Gangas, Henshel, Barry and many others visited. I met Jararcz a few times. Most of them had booming voices. Many years ago one of the GB was on a tour in Italy. He spoke to a few brothers and I and mentioned when he toured the vatican....we thought it strange that he actually visited a "babylonian temple" but he said it was no different than the apostle paul giving talks in religious buildings of both jews and greeks. But while visiting the vatican he asked the brothers and sisters with him to huddle in the corner as he was going to offer a prayer. Part way thru his prayer he says "God, please Damn this place soon". I was shocked first off that a member of the GB actually said the word damn. And secondly that he used this word during a prayer. I mentioned this to a few people after he told the story to us. They looked at me like I was an apostate. The said I must have misheard or something. Strange indeed.

How do you want to 'go'?
by dmouse in.
of course, nobody really wants to die, but if you had a choice about how...how would you like to go?.
some people i know would like to pop their clogs after a game of golf, some in the pub with friends.. personally, i want to be shot in bed by a jealous husband when i'm 96.

I dont know how I would go, but many years ago I worked in a aircraft factory. I used to go bowling with the guys one night a week. The elders never knew since it was 1 to 3 am on a Thursday night. But on with the story.....one guy was a fantastic bowler. His average was only what someone would dream to attain. One night we bowled against his team. It was his turn to bowl. He got up.....rolled the ball....crack...it was a strike. He turned around....took one step...fell flat on his face...died of a massive heart attack. I guess that would be the ideal way for a bowler to die. If it were me...I would have tripped on the way to the red line...the ball would have fallen in the gutter...everyone would laugh thinking I did it on purpose...then after a few minutes the would realize something was wrong.

Man that one really make one think. Think of all the adoration those that we forget recieve but how fleeting it really is. I will always remember my kindergarten teacher who show up at the state spelling bee finals that I was in...just cause I was there. But ask me who the president was back then....or what was the hit movie...all forgotten.

A while back we had a fairly sucessful posting history on stereotypical witnesses. How about stereotypical ELDERS. I will start the ball rolling with two:
1) Brother Oldentimer - He has been an elder for as long as the arrangement has been around. He will interchange return visit with "back calls" on his service meeting parts. His faux london fog overcoat is older than your mother. He collects old toy electric trains. He is always one of the brothers offering one of the prayers at the Memorial. Many young ones ask him if he is one of the "annointed".
2) Brother Walking Bible - He knows every scriptural reference the society has ever used. He knows the "new light" before anyone else in the congregation. His bible automatically opened to the book and chapter of the bible that he wants while at a door in field service. He many times will have no children of his own but offers an abudance of advice on how to successfully raise them. He has a penchant for wearing weird hats out in field service.

Alternative service issues affected many brothers for years. I know of one brother in my old congregation who was practically shunned for ages for opting to perform alternative service during the vietnam war. He was practically shoved out of the congregation. He was eventually DF'ed for immorality many years later but the attitude was....well thats what ya get for doing alternative service. During his reinstatement the issue of alternative service was brought up. I always felt bad about the harsh treatment he recieved for years and years. If it happened now it would be "no problem". I wonder how many more were subjected to this and more.
