On the OP, I actually think that JWs refusal to get involved in War or any military service is the JWs best argument in favour of their religion. Not that it's completely foolproof or makes them the true religion, or even 'most christian' but it's a very difficult discussion to have with a JW and the last thing I'd want to debate them on.

700 JWs imprisoned in Korea
by NeverKnew in"you have no idea!
yes, people hate jws!".
this statement was made to me by a jw who had just left a meeting to present the notion that they were the persecuted christians.

Steve2: Are you being serious? How is that argument any different than saying a JW who speaks out against the Watchtower Society and gets disfellowshipped for apostasy knew the consequences so shouldn't boo-hoo about how they were treated unjustly or cruelly? Unless you believe that as well...

New JW.org video on "helping" prisoners
by cedars inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-vjlssg3xi.
you can't help but feel sympathy for these guys.
some of the things they did will have been horrendous, but they are paying their dues to society through their incarceration.. what they don't deserve is to become mentally imprisoned to a damaging cult.. .

2:33 - Why is that brother not using an NWT?
It was a moving video and the JW featured in it is likely a very kind man, but the Watchtower Society as an Organisation do not do nearly as much to help Prisoners as several Christian and even secular charities.
In a sermon in Church recently I heard a Vicar tell a story about doing missionary work in Zambia, which involved visiting a horrendously overcrowded prison, he found out whilst he was there that around 100 prisoners were in the Prison for failing to pay a £50 Visa fee. He wrote to some Churches back in England to ask for help, and raised the £5000 he needed to pay those fees and free the Prisoners (which was not conditional on any conversion.) I thought, what would a JW have done in that situation? He couldn't have done anything, if he'd wrote to the Congregation the elders would have to reprimand him, and if he wrote to the Society he'd certainly be rebuffed.
Similarly, most Christian charities that do Prison ministry also have programs to help prisoners find housing/work and generally reintegrate into Society post-prison. A kind JW might take it upon themselves to help one of their prison studies in this way but if he/she hasn't got the means to do so, what will the Society or local congregation do to help? Again, nothing.

Bitter apostates
by Laika inwitnesses often go on about apostates being spiteful and bitter.
when you get cut off, shunned, or threatened with shunning just for the audacity of thinking differently, it's not surprising that getting angry at the witnesses is the reaction - it's like a self fulfilling prophecy.. but also, i recently posted an email from a 'friend' on this board who told me that everyone he'd spoken to about me said i had changed, become like another person.
it didn't occur to him that the day before i told my parents i'd quit the religion just 3 weeks ago, i met him for lunch, we had a good time and he didn't know anything was up.

Cold Steel, the problem is that JWs and seemingly Mormons as well, are trained not to see any valid reason to leave the religion, so when someone leaves they get attacked and often cut off. It's a horrible experience for those of us whose only 'crime' is a loss of faith. Also, doesn't it bother you that the Mormon website whitewashes Joseph's history by making out he was a faithful and devoted husband of only one wife?

In hindsight the fact that we weren't allowed to read other religion's theological literature, even if it made no mention/criticism of the JWs, should have been a pretty big clue shouldn't it?
If JWs really had the truth, they would be told to take the literature and read it so they could better understand the householder's beliefs, then return to discuss the errors allegedly disseminated therein.

I Am Tired Of Hearing People Becoming So Racially Divisive!
by minimus intrayvon/zimmerman....it's all about race....that's what some people keep saying.
you criticize the president, and you are against blacks.
you talk about illegal aliens and you hate mexicans.

I am not American so I don't want to come across as judgemental but I thought it was odd when I was following your Presidential election and the left kept accusing Romney of intentionally 'blowing dog whistles to racists' when he criticised benefits or basically anything the democrats supported. As if he was sat down with his strategy team and they discussed ways to fire up white prejudice when he desperately needed minority votes. It made no sense...
I was glad Romney didn't win but not because I thought he was a racist.

When Is Armageddon? Really?
by Cold Steel inyeah, i know that it's been just around the corner for as long as there have been corners, but my question adds just a little different twist, and that twist is: is there anything (according to the gb) that needs to take place before armageddon?
or can it happen any moment?
and what will be the first signs of armageddon?

"Yeah, I know that it's been just around the corner for as long as there have been corners" - I like that line. :)
Firstly there has to be a King of the North, then the UN will ban religion and the world leaders will claim this has brought 'peace and security' Of course the JWs will refuse to allow the ban on religion to stop their worship and when the world governments try to do something about this Jehovah will then step in to sort 'em out.
