By 'born again' JWs generally mean fundamentalist or evangelical Christian.
As barry pointed out this is a pretty broad term and encompasses a lot of different beliefs.
i have talked to christians for years on this subject and they all seem more confused then ever.
some born agains have a hard time reconciling hellfire damnation with jehovah's loving personality.
the two just can't mix.

Surely this only works if people believe you?
I think you need to work on your pitch.
i'm not sure what the pope represents to the catholics, if they consider him god, gods channel, vicor or what.
so those of you who know, could it not be said that the jw's have the same in their leaders?
is the 8 men of the gb now the 8 popes of the jw's or as a collective body 1 pope of the jw's or is there a difference between what the pope is to catholics and what these 8 men think they now are?.
The GB have much more authority over individual JWs than the Pope does individual catholics.
do you remember anything from your baptism talk or the brother who gave it?.
Yep, talk by a DO named Dave Algar who I imagine is quite well known by the Brits. Great speaker.
i mean we aussie team has 583 runs to get in our last innings after england declared with 3 wickets in hand.
.
No.
just mulling over the demise of religion in general as we humans progress away from fear of the unknown.. i was wondering when some country or group will try to outlaw religion.
then i recalled how an all out attack on religion is what is supposed to trigger armageddon.
after 9/11 the first thing george bush said was that islam is not the problem, extremist terrorists are the problem.
Didn't Rutherford teach that when the Nazis won World War 2 they would set up a worldwide fascist dictatorship in league with the Catholic Church that would ban all non-Catholic religion?
in a speech that is considered one of the most personal given by the president, or any past president, president obama speaks about treyvon martin being him 35 years agoand- violence, prejudice, the reach and limits of the states and the federal government, and the soul searching to follow.
.
he, the president, invokes martin luther king's- 'the content of character' quote to spark a healthy debate in this country.. www.cnn.com.
I think Martin Luther King's" I have a dream speach" is probably one of the best speaches of the 20th century. So much was going on in the US at the time. I never met MLK but I feel I know him and Obama is no MLK. I am white by the way.
Trust me, it was not necessary to point this out.
witnesses often go on about apostates being spiteful and bitter.
when you get cut off, shunned, or threatened with shunning just for the audacity of thinking differently, it's not surprising that getting angry at the witnesses is the reaction - it's like a self fulfilling prophecy.. but also, i recently posted an email from a 'friend' on this board who told me that everyone he'd spoken to about me said i had changed, become like another person.
it didn't occur to him that the day before i told my parents i'd quit the religion just 3 weeks ago, i met him for lunch, we had a good time and he didn't know anything was up.
if you think I’m going to get in a long, drawn out discussion of your emotional problems with the church, it’s not going to happen. Your bitterness cannot be contained and you clearly have issues.
Cold Steel, this type of thing is exactly what this thread was all about! Qcmbr may have been very critical of your beliefs and church but not once has he attacked you personally in this way, where as you resorted to this almost immediately into the discussion. What does this tell you?
i notice in the new "imitate their faith" book that the watchtower writer has taken pedantically to referring to abraham as abram throughout.
does this now aply to all new publications that refer to abraham?
is there any particular reason for the change?
I would have thought that this is just because the Chapter describes events that happened before Abraham had his name changed?
OTOH they do revise their terminology a lot... I never really got that.
when i was about 6/7 there was a talk that made reference to the violence of teenage mutant ninja turtles.
when we got home, all my tmnj figures were packed up into a plastic bag and put away in the loft.
at least they weren't thrown in a wheelie bin.. when i was about 13 there was a local needs (yes, a whole talk) on the evils of pokemon, complete with the statement that pokemon was short for pocket demons (not true) no more pokemon blue for me.. i remember explaining to my pe (gym) teacher, in front of my whole class, that i could not play for the football (soccer!
Refusing to salute the flag in front of everyone
Ah likeabird! Being a Brit I never had to deal with that one, it must have been horrible.
I'd actually say my parents were quite moderate, it was only when toys/games were specifically mentioned on the platform were they banned. So even though I lost my TMNT, I still got to keep my Action Men, and even though I lost Pokemon I could still play Zelda like sd-7.
But even the most liberal JW upbringing is extremely conservative to an outsider.
