"Brainwashing" does not exist
by logansrun inthe term "brainwashing" is sometimes thrown around this forum and i thought i'd briefly comment on it.
the idea that a group or person can actually make you think, act and feel in a certain way is highly dubious.
i'm not saying it's impossible, but i highly doubt that any ex-jws have ever experienced "brainwashing.

MUST you respond in a thread?
by logansrun ini've come to a new conclusion about myself, this board and communication in general: i don't need to respond, elaborate, explain or otherwise defend myself to other people.
most notably on this board, of course.
here's my reasoning: .

Sun lamps / air purifiers for DEPRESSION....
by logansrun inhello folks,.
i'm curious if anyone here has personal experience with using a sun lamp and/or air purifier for depression.
chicago -- where i live -- is generally a cold and rather gloomy place in the winter.

Unless you believe in "spirit(s)" you cannot be "spiritual"
by logansrun inupon a fine conversation with a good forum member last night i started to think about the meaning of the word spiritual.
many people, including some agnostics and atheists, use this word with some regularity.
"i'm not religious, but i am spiritual" is something even i have said.

The subtle distancing of my Witness past....
by logansrun inhello folks,.
it has been said by many long-time ex-witnesses that the greatest stage of "healing" we can go through is when we feel like an ex-ex-jehovah's witness.
more and more i have been feeling this way.

Hatha yoga VS Tai Chi
by logansrun inso, i'm finishing up an introductory yoga class in a couple of weeks and am contemplating which direction i want to go in after this (besides, of course, contemplating my chakras..haha).
between my work, "real" classes and gobs and gobs of glorious sexual experiences with beautiful women i probably only have time for one "extra" pursuit in the physical-spiritual realm.
i've enjoyed yoga -- it's worked well for the mind/body -- but am flirting with the idea of tai chi.

On becoming a (shunned) person...
by logansrun inas i walked back from the bank to my car yesterday i saw an elder and his wife from my old, old congregation.
i waved, but they didn't see me.
they entered their car, backed up and i stood exactly two feet away from their window smiling and waving.

"The path of least resistance..."
by logansrun inif i could have a dollar for the number of times i've heard an "older, experienced" jw talk about young-ones taking the "path of least resistance" and "going to the world" i would be richer than george soros.
truth in fact, for some young witnesses, peer pressure does lead them to forsake the organization and follow (for them) what is the "path of least resistance.
" my experience is that these younger ones generally have only one parent who is a jw and usually "weak" at that.
