I don't think you are mad for one minute. I agree with you - all the people that experience these things can't be mad or liars. I also agree with you that I believe they exist but just don't know what they are.
I was interested in whyhideit's comment that we existed before and after our physical life. I met someone on the ministry once who believed that also. It is such a complex subject.
What do you all think of mediums and the like? Do you think they are all charlatans?
seems that the page view out number the posters who actually reply to the thread.. my guess is that there's alot of active jws who are still active within' the so called "truth" are visiting this forum and reading all the threads.
i don't blame them for not wanting to reply for fear of being found out.. how many of you were still active when you found a forum like this one and lurked around for a long time?
how many of you left the organization as a result of reading this forum or other forums like it?.

I am an ex-Catholic and an ex-JW - you can imagine how mixed up I am!
I totally agree with you that both religions have made a lot of mistakes. In my opinion, they are both responsible for a lot of pain also. I often think of going back to being RC. When I try to think what draws me to it, it all boils down to the fact that it is the religion of my childhood and feels comfortable - not a good enough reason really, is it?

I suppose, if we look at this logically, the chances are that when we die, the end of us - at least for the time being until we have a resurrection or something. The reason I think this is, with the number of people dying every day, why aren't there more paranormal incidents? Surely, if it was possible to come back, the majority of people would want to contact their loved ones, wouldn't they? What about those people who had a firm belief in an afterlife and promised their families they would contact them? Nothing ever comes of it. Billions of people have died since man's creation - where are all the ghosts of these people? Why are ghosts always medieval nuns or monks or dressed in Victorian costumes or whatever? I do think there is something else that we can't explain, but I am not sure if they are ghosts. I think the WT explanation that they are demons is really creepy and I am not too sure about that either. Those of you that say you have had strange experiences - would you care to elaborate? I would be like to hear your stories because this is a subject that interests me.

How can you be so certain. I think I want to believe in ghosts, but on the other hand, thnking of my little girl in a spirit world, all alone without me, breaks my heart. It is easier to think of her in a sleep waiting for the resurrection. I get so mixed up at times, I don't know what I believe any more. There is so much that we don't know. If we carry on living after death, wouldn't God have told us this clearly, without any doubt. Of course, I am assuming you believe in God - many people don't. Even that subject gets me going round and round in circles. I sometimes think I will never have peace until I either get some answers or until I am dead too. Sorry - don't mean to sound morbid or anything.

So many people have had strange experiences. If they are not ghosts, what are they? Is the WT correct in saying they are demons? As I said, I can't believe that all the people who have had strange experiences are either liars or are imagining it - there has to be something behind these occurrences. I have no idea what it is - I wish I knew more - it would put my mind at rest.

I also saw 'The Others' not so long ago - it is a very good film - great atmosphere.
This is something I often wonder about. The Bible does teach that the dead are conscious of nothing and Jesus likened death to a sleep. However, there must be some people who do see things because they can't all be mad or liars. I know that we are taught as JWs that these are demons impersonating our dead loved ones, but I am not too sure about that. There isn't any real evidence for that reasoning - they just use an example from the OT where Saul consulted the Witch of En Dor and she supposedly conjured up Samuel (I think this is correct??) This isn't really a good enough reason in my mind. But then I think, if it is possible to die and then contact the living, why don't more people do this when they die. If I died, I would still want to keep in contact with my loved ones, just to let them know I was ok. It is such a difficult subject and I don't know if it is possible to find the answers. When my daughter died, I would often wonder where she was (even as a JW) and if she was truly asleep and out of pain. I nearly drove myself mad thinking about this - I still do. I wish I knew the answers.

Thank you for your replies - they are very interesting and I would welcome more info on Jesus being Michael - I have never understood that. You can email it to me or post it here. I am interested in finding out more about Russell also, especially his relationship with Rutherford.

Do you think that we should be able to understand Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel etc without all this detective work? Why are some parts symbolic and others not, and how do we know which is which? I am always puzzled at the way God had the Bible written in such a peculiar way, as if he deliberately doesn't want us to understand it. It could just as easily have been written in a clear, simple-to-understand way so that there was no room for doubt. Do you have any opinion on this- it is something that I have often wondered about - I get really annoyed sometimes when I can't understand things.
today i spoke with a former jw i've been in touch with for several years and discovered what i think could be a major bombshell for the wts.
as we all know, shunning is the most powerful weapon the wt cult has over its members and for decades the wts has been able to get away with practicing it at their whim.
the us and other courts have permitted them to to use it, even though it destroys families and has ruined countless lives.
