The Independent,2 April 2003, page13/14
by badboy in.
on page 13 is an ad by the lord's witnesses.. `the league of nations/un was abyssed during wwii as prophesied in revelation 17.. it is ridden by a harlot which stands for all the unfaithful churches in the world.these are all the religions which have joined the un as ngos(non governmental organisations).they range from the catholics to the jehovah's witnesses.the reason that christian churches should not join th un is that they are supposed to look to god for their protection and advancement not powerful organisations of men.in this sense joining the un is an act of unfaithfullness, depicted in revelation as harlotry, because the church is supposed to be the wife of christ,he should be their head rather than any political organisation such as the un,however noble their charter may be!.
page 14. a man with mental is said to have confessed after reading the sixth commandment.

What should we reply when invited to memorial?
by bluesapphire inwhen my mil invites my husband to the memorial he plans on saying, "well i've already been to the memorial before.
if you've been there once, there's no need to go again since the talk is the same mumbo-jumbo year after year and i'm not anointed anyway.".
what do you plan on saying or have you said?

This year may be the first that I may decide not to attend, so your post interests me bluesapphire. My feeling is that, even if you belive jw speak, it's for the annointed anyway. Really, it seems ridiculous to sit there and pass a plate of bread and a glass of wine around and just look at them as they go by.
One time, a speaker mentioned that being in attendance was like being at a wedding to witness the marriage of the groom and bride. Well, to me, the Memorial is like being at a wedding where the groom is not visible and the bride does not show up, since in most congregations there are no partakers anyway.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses Really Loving? (agape)
by metatron injehovah's witnesses used to quote "by this, all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love amoung yourselves".
very prominently.
some older publications referred to this scripture first in discussing the claim that the watchtower.

Good post. The love is for the most part very conditional and based on performance - hours, meeting attendance, etc.

How Come Brooklyn Never Saw This One Coming?
by Englishman inbooks and magazines all full of dire warnings..stay away from the world..don't have sex outside of marriage..armageddon is just around the corner..avoid worldly associations..look out for this, look out for that.
the list goes on and on and on.. yet the wtbts predictors of doom and gloom department never, ever, in their worst nightmares, ever saw what it was that would prove to be their nemesis.. that ex-witnesses, the majority of them disfellowshipped and, therefore, supposedly gagged and without a voice, would find a way to communicate with one another via the internet.. i wonder if the fact that they brought this upon themselves is clear to them?
the irony is astonishing.

My guess is that they'd rather not mention what is going on Internet-wise, even with respect to warning specifically about ex-jws and so forth. I think they'd only end up arousing more curiosity in their otherwise mushroom-like membership, who are largely kept in the dark and fed only what the WTS wants to feed them.

Do you see any signs?
by JH inthe jw's always told us that we were living the "last days" because of the signs.
earthquakes: no too many.
wars: there has always been wars.

Yep, the Sun will apparently run out of fuel and the dying process for that star will begin in a few billion years. That's why I am selling my home to pioneer, passing up college for my kid, and making sure I don't procreate again. The end is too close!

Birthdays - I may need some input
by rocketman inwe had a birthday "party" for my daughter at a local restaurant today, with a group of her friends invited.
we are "inactive" but i still attend some meetings.
i do not comment or want any 'privilages'.. anyway, one person whom my daughter invited is a jw, though she has said that she may want to get out soon.

Thank you for the supportive comments and good advice. Indeed, one reason we had this b-day gig is because we feel that the whole no-bday thing is on very shaky ground. Because a Pharoah and a Herod got nuts means that we cannot even have a nice aknowledgement and a get-togther?
I was concerned that though not technically a DF offense, the elders could, like Matty implies, try something anyway, like claiming "apostasy" (one elder tried that two decades ago when I got married in a church to my then-non jw wife).
As far as removing privilages goes, since I have none, they cannot take them away. And that's the way I have it set up. I've had privilages removed before, and I never much appreciated the punitive nature of that whole arrangement. So, I plan never to allow myself to be put in that position again.
