i am a witness that is no longer going to meetings.. but i tell you what, i'm scared to death.. i'm really "limping on two decisions.".

Serve God all you want. But you need to to stop convincing yourself that you can abdicate the resposibility of finding out what the truth is for yourself. If you let others decide for you, you get what you get.
I didn't leave because I found the real truth. I left because I didn't have it.
hi, i'm a little bit nervous posting something in here.....this is the firts time.....i was just wondering what "good" or "bad" things you have to say about jw.
i have been a jw all my life and my husband too.
right now i'm in the process of getting out... or fading away....i'm not attending the meetings anymore.
Welcome. You'll find some people quite envious of the fact that you and your husband are getting out at about the same time.

I think you'll love this one: There is no rational basis for including the Divine name in the New Testament. Franz had no grounds to translate hundreds of references 'Lord' to Jehovah. 'Jehovah' just ain't there. If daddy does his research, he'll find the JW rationalizations - but they are not valid. The NWT is quite flawed in it's emphasis of Jehovah at the expense of the mediator Christ.
You will need to do some research to be ready for a round or two. I'll check some notes I have at when I get home tonight - Pacific time.

Question before this gets started: Are we talking about the bible itself, solo scriptura? Or are we talking about some WTS interpretation of of some scripture snippets thereof, therefore some organizational doctrine? - Big, big difference.

what book did you find the hardest to understand at the book study?
we studied the book "revelation its grand climax at hand!
" three times at the book study, and i found it very confusing each time.
Just last night I was reading the Babylon book (looking for reasoning and logic can get pretty tough). It is amazing how they got from Nebuchadezzar's (sp? who cares) tree and the seven times all the way to a greater fullfilment 2520 years later (I can only deduce that Jehovah is some greater Nebuchadezzar).
It is so laden with weak implications that it could not have been written in good faith. My wife loved the paragragh that explained how they decided to use the 360-day year for a 'time' and a day for a year - clutter it up with lunar year this, and solar year that, and throw it all away and decide on a prophetic year. A person couldn't write that crap without knowing he was making it all up - (unless he claimed to be inspired and he wouldn't need to understand it - even himself)
i met a jw man a little more than 2 years ago.
he grew up in the truth.
i was worldly.

the reason that i am a little afraid is that four out of my five grown children are still jws and if they knew that i was on here.....well nothing would change, would it, they don't speak to me now.

YdidI, Welcome. I'll be looking forward to your stories - I'll bet you have a ton. With the exception of child abuse, stories of separated families are the most heart rending.

It seems like "Babylon the Great Has Fallen ..." gets quite a few votes. Count me in. I've been reading it - exactly because I found it so confusing when I was a dubbie. It is loaded with irrelevant history (like may dad is fond of saying: "If you can't dazzle 'em with experience, baffle 'em with bullsh1t."). But I particularly enjoy finding the deceptive parts where they (Freddie Franz I believe) state some connection to prophecy - but he states it loosely, and the reader is supposed to make the inferrence. I think that ploy is used to set the stage for the 'we never exactly said that' excuse.
I remember the JWs all impressed with their leadership and their capacity to develop such deep materials.
i guess i am still a newbee here.
