Dubs and Horsies

i've gotten the impression that gambling is not looked upon kindly by the 'tower.

is it officially condemned, i.e.

is it a disfellowshippable offence?.

I'm still waiting for someone to show me this biblical basis for disallowing gambling. Gambling as an addiction, spending the rent money, etc sure, that's sinful and not good stewardship, but gambling for entertainment? A poker game with the boys, a lotto ticket here and there, $50.00 at the casino every few months? How does gambling as entertainment in this fashion violate biblical principles? Would it be different then social drinking? WIERD!

Does the Watchtower break up famelies?

my word it does.. when i started studying with the witlesses all of my family and inlaws deserted me for following a stupit cult.

my wife divorced me and my children won't talk to me.. that's ok because according to jdubs that proves it's the truth.. as i progressed in "the truth(tm)" all my friends started to abandon me because i was always going to those booring meetings.. when i found someone i liked in "the truth" and started associating with her, some of my witness friends tried to break up the friendship.. ie break up another family before it even starts.. after i married her without getting the elder permission, some of my jdub friends tried to df me, to show how much they loved me.. when they failed to df me some of my witless friends decided to shun me anyway even though the elders pronounced us no guilty.. i should have sued the bastards for slander.

today i'd just give him (the instigator) a good hiding.

Have I seen you before on H2O? The story sounds REAL familiar, either that or it's a common story. Esse, sorry for the pain, You too Hester. My wife's brother has nothing to do with her because of her "unscriptural" divorce from her husband, or maybe it has to do with him abusing her when she was a 8 yr old, who knows.

Two Questions

i have two questions, mostly for commited christians, though i'm sure somehow, that others will reply too.. 1) does prayer change god or his mind?.

2) if not, why pray?.

i have my own opinion on the subject, but i may be adjusting my understanding of god.. have fun!.

Well, these are my thoughts on the issue. God is immutable, that is, unchangable. To me, that would also mean He doesn't change His mind. So then, why pray? Prayer does not change God, prayer changes us. Through prayer, communication with God, the Holy Spirit can work in us to conform our will to that of the Father. Scripture tells us that God already knows what we need before we ask Him. God knows the end from the beginning, therefore, I can't think really that he changes, but rather that we pray as an act of faith and to conform our will to that of the Father. However, I've recently read some Jewish Materials that indicate a line of thought that God may hold off certain blessings for us until we ask Him for them. I think I need to pray about this issue some more. :>)

if one assumes that the bible is true, (not saying that it is) then a really big question arises.. eve was in the garden, minding her own business and a snake decieves her into eating from a tree that god had said not to eat from.. she then goes to adam and says that the snake said it was good to eat so i ate it, you try it.. this just doesnt wash. for starters, the first thing eve would really have said is "adam, come check this out, its a talking snake.".

and even if she didnt, he would have said "what, a talking snake, this i gotta see".

THey were brand new, what did they know? They knew God Created the whole world. If the world had been created by God, how easy would a talking snake be? Did Adam and Eve speak Hebrew?

Without a doubt this shows the WTBTS to be a false prophet. More at they are a self perpetuating money making machine, in my humble opinion. Doesn't mean Dubs aren't sincere though, just sincerely fooled.

The baptism is off.....

told by the elders yesterday that since i'm a official at a sports match on saturdays and i won't quit doing it (they mention it occasionally to me at meetings), that they won't be allowing me to get baptised the next assembly coming up.

it might matter if i was working 5 days a week but at the moment i'm only working 2 days......(i've already racked up 50 hours this month).

i remember a talk a while back with the theme "what prevents you from getting baptised?
