I have a multi-channel receiver and I want to add a rear-surround speaker, just one center. I already have: Right, Left, Center, Sub-woofer, Surround R & L. I have one extra speaker and I'd like to use it to achieve 6.1 surround.

On my JVC receiver, should I wire the rear surround to the right or left speaker outputs; or do I need to use both to achieve 6.1?

I saw the movie for the second time with a Japanese friend. She whispered into my ear during the Japanese language dialogue. She told me this about the scene with the Director and the Interpreter during the filming of the commercial:

The director was impassioned about the commercial and was pushing Bill Murray's character into following his vision. The interpreter was too ashamed and humble to speak in such a pushyt way to a famous American actor, which is why she could not convey all of the words. Anyway, that was her take on the cultural aspect of it.

I, too, connected with the film. I loved the parts of the movie where the girl wandered around just observing people, but not really being part of what was going on. I often feel this way.

Good post, as always. I?ve been thinking about this very subject of late, due to some inner conflicts regarding my new-found patriotism.

Although I do not support the polices of the current administration, I still believe I can work within the framework of The Establishment to make things better. Thus, I do not feel obliged to sell my home, quit my job, and move to another country in protest.

How far does this attitude go? In other words, at what point do I ?get out of her?? If I am working for a mechanic who routinely cheats customers on auto repairs and I am silent about the deception, am I complicit? Probably, and my sense of honesty would compel me to leave. Do I wear clothing that was produced in a sweatshop by underpaid 12 year olds? Probably, without even knowing it. How far does my own responsibility extend? Should know the origins of all my consumables? Kind of a weird personal boundary for each of us. I don?t, for example, eat veal. I eat beef, though. Not sure I could justify either decision.

I admit I have remained silent (well?.mostly) while the administration of this forum has done things with which I have strenuously disagreed. Should I therefore stop posting here? I have drastically cut back my participation, but due to the sheer number of members, I remain in contact. Time would not allow most of us to follow every controversy and make a truly informed decision about the right/wrongness of the outcome. I can only say that over the past year or so, I?ve seen things that made me very uncomfortable and I have at times said as much.

Think of it this way, Ginny: When you sit down to eat a meal, can you reasonably be expected to know whether or not illegal immigrants were abused to pick the romain for your salad? Could you possibly know whether the chicken breast in your sandwich was raised under humane conditions? Were the dairy farmers who produced your cheddar cheese paid a just price?

Sometimes, we just have to do the best we can.

I?ll remain a resident of the USA because I love it here and I believe it is among the very best places to live. I?ll continue to work to return the government to one I can support. I?ll recycle and carpool when possible. I?ll keep posting here until the administration does something that crosses my own personal boundary. I hope you do, too. It?s really good to have you back.

As you may know, I am no supporter of Bush, nor do I support invasion of other nations solely for the purpose of regime change. Once that sort of thing starts, where does it end and at what cost to the US in terms of lives and money?

Contrary to what some say about those who did not support this war, I love my country, and would only put our men and women in the military in harms way when it is absolutely necessary to protect American interests or for the good of the global community at large.

While I would agree that Saddam was a bad leader and was terribly oppressive to his own people, the same could be said for at least half-a-dozen leaders around the globe. Again, how far does the US go?

I also feel it is helpful for rational people to discuss these subjects and learn to respect the opposition point of view. If not for these kinds of debates, we would ? as someone put it earlier ? keep our heads up our own asses and never learn what the other side was thinking. Speaking personally, I respect the views of reasoned people like Yeru and Amazing, even while strongly disagreeing with them.

On the other hand, when we make sweeping generalities like, ?Only a Moron would think thus-and-so?? or "that's typical lefty liberal stupidity..." it demeans the other?s point of view and stifles rational discussion.

Seattle Area Meet-up

i know that our very own seattleniceguy posted pics of the remodeled assembly hall in puyallup....but we just got an email from a dub from our old congregation that still has us on their distribution list.

I must admit, it's quite an improvement over the old 80's decor. I think the interior looks beautiful. The worst part of that place (apart from the hypocracy being spouted from the stage) is that it is set in a lovely piece of real estate and there are NO windows. I used to hate that you couldn't tell what the weather was like outside - sunny or snowing, you just never knew until lunch or end of session.

Seeing those shots brought back memories of the quick-builds. My ex and I always served on the first-aid committee. One of the few good memories I took away from the JW experience. No matter what I have learned since then, I did love the quick-builds.
