Totally cringeworthy weekend of Facebook smugness.
by quellycatface inlast night i was looking at some of my ex-friends photos of the assembly in twickenham.. the smugness is palpable.
the smiles do not reach their eyes, however.
everyone is swathed in shawls, men with jumpers under their suits and it all looks very stiff.. anyone else seen any of these photo calls?

Onager, I've been known to delete someone's post when they try to quote nwt "scriptures" and hijack my post for their benefit. Used to be you'd have to delete your entire post but now you can delete comments made by others - one of the few good improvements on fb lately.

Telephone Conversations Today with 2 Elders Re: Shunning - Or Not?
by abbasgreta inmy alcoholic and aged jw mother is now extremely ill and is being cared for in every respect by my non-jw brother.
3 sisters visited him yesterday and were adamant.
that i (disassociated and shunned by her for nearly 3 years) was able to 'visit her any time' and that ' there was nothing to stop me seeing her' as long as i. didn't discuss spiritual things with her.

Disgusting. Can't think of a better word to describe their behavior and hypocrisy.
The only time they'll "allow" (bend over and kiss their rings while you're at it, btw) a df'd person to associate with a dub is when THEY do not want the responsbility of caring for their dear bro or sis. Such bullsh*t. Once you're of no use to them, screw you...they wouldn't lift a finger. Did the three "sisters" come over to clean? cook? help? Three of them and they came to "preach"?
Shameful. There's the other word I was missing.

A QUESTION I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANSWERED BY JWs
by NAVYTOWN inthe jws make such a big deal about not taking (eating) blood in any form.
that being the case, shouldn't they avoid eating steaks?
even a well- done steak still contains the animals blood.

Okay...fractions and juice aside...what about eldubs who just lovvvvve some RARE steak? That's definitely some blood being eaten, no matter how you try to slice and dice the description.

Juan, I understand your frustration and sense of resignation. Reading the comments posted on your site just made me want to bang my head against the wall.
The thing is, even the die-hard crazies who post and yell "apostate, unclean!" are only using what they've been taught. It's their magic shield to ward off anything that scares them and everything they don't want to deal with.
There are many who visit this site and yours and see that craziness for what it is. Without a forum for the nutters to put themselves on display, others who may be weighing the wackiness of the pseudo-religion in their minds may have a harder time seeing the light. The wackos actually help good-hearted ones to leave the cult because they put its nonsensical attitudes on display in a public place. We never know what will be that proverbial straw breaking the camel's back...but it's never a one-time thing. It's usually a buildup of "whoa, that doesn't make sense" and "how can that be?" and "they are truly acting crazy!" that opens eyes and hearts and minds.
I don't blame you for not arguing...there is no arguing with a crazy person...but you never know how many honest-hearted, good people are reading those posts and benefitting. So Thank You for helping folks to see TTATT, however you choose to do it.
Many hugs to you!

Not invited to my nephews wedding
by outforever inknew that this would be the case - so not surprised.
quite happy to not go - as i would not like to see my mother / or my big sister at all.
this nephew is my small sisters son - my small sister and myself are very close - she does not go to the meetings anymore for quite a while now, her eyes have been opened.

bigmac, THIS should be pointed out to your local news journalist looking for a Wow story:
all part of the religious hatred called shunning. i got hardened to it many years ago.
my daughter--43 this month--lives 3 miles from me--i can see her place from mine. she has 4 daughters of her own. oldest is 17. ive never met them.
Just because we all say That's The Way They Are doesn't make it RIGHT. It's morally (and should be legally) unconscionable to raise children to hate/shun their parent.
SHAME on any Witnesses who CHOOSE to practice SHUNNING.
SHUNNING is a personal HATE crime and should be ILLEGAL.

I think Comatose has it right: Religion is a snare and a racket. No further discussion needed.

A catholic court ordered to attend jehovah's witnesses kingdomhall???
by EndofMysteries ini just saw this news piece, http://www.onenewsnow.com/legal-courts/2014/08/25/catholic-workers-ordered-to-attend-jehovah%e2%80%99s-witness-services#.u_uee_ldv8e.
the ninth u.s. circuit court of appeals has issued a ruling that workers at a home for the disabled must attend a jehovahs witness worship service with patients who wish to attend.. in 2009, california instructed san gabriel/pomona regional center to have staff escort a jehovah's witness patient to services, but two catholic employees objected and sued on the grounds that their faith requires they only attend catholic services.. brad dacus, founder of pacific justice institute, says it's an interesting case.. we have the rights of employees under title 7, which requires reasonable accommodation for the sincerely held religious beliefs of employees, he says.
in this case, arguably that would mean not requiring these particular employees to have to sit in and attend a jehovahs witness church service.. the attorney says employers should do everything they can to meet employees faith needs, but also cannot forget the needs of the disabled in this situation.

The only thing within the scope of their job should be to take the jdub to their meetings and drop them off into the loving arms of the jdub brethren. The catholics or anyone professing any other religion should be allowed to NOT enter the hall but just to drop off and pick up. Come on, jdubs, show how loving you are and take care of your disabled brothers and sisters!

Islam and another cult very similar.....
by Phizzy inhttp://leftfootforward.org/2014/08/the-caliphate-delusion-the-political-construct-that-bears-no-relevance-in-the-modern-world/.
the above link is to an interesting article by the quilliam foundation on why the idea of a caliphate is delusional.
these paragraphs stood out to me, substitute "jw's" for "islamists" and see what you think.. " the facts of history, however, are largely irrelevant to modern islamists because theirs is a struggle and a cause that is characterized by the meaning it gives to their lives and the excuses it offers to avoid introspection.
