@smiddy3 I have often wondered why there were only 66 books in the bible, that number always struck me as being a bit odd. Growing up my grandmother who was a Pentecostal was a superstitious woman, and one of the numbers she was spooked by was 666.

Why is the Watchtower omitting even more scriptures from their bible?
by Tameria2001 ini was searching for something online when i came across something that perked my interest.
i left the jws back in 2001, and have recently discovered that in 2013 they released a new edition of the new world translation of the holy scriptures.
but something i have also discovered it that they have omitted even more scriptures than what was in the 1984 edition as if that was bad enough.

When I was a JW, I had an experience that caused me never do business with JWs ever again, well two, but I didn't learn my lesson from the first time.
The first time was when my husband and I were first married. Just before we got married, my husband was living in a cozy little apartment renting from a fairly decent landlord (a worldly woman). But we were convinced into moving into this other apartment, owned by a JW elder. From all appearances, it looked even better than the place we had, but it wasn't as we discovered after moving it. What made thing impossible to live there, besides all the things that were wrong with it was the landlord (a JW elder). He would be constantly popping in, with no notification, and not bothering to knock on the door. There were a couple of times I was in the bath, and guess who would come walking in. After that, my husband and I moved to another location, in a different congeration.
The second time, the one where I did learn my lesson. My husband was involved in a car accident, no one was hurt, but our car needed some major repairs. A fellow JW told us that his friend, also another JW in a different congeration owns a body repair shop. So we went to this "friend", and he said he would do the repairs. At the time we had a $500 deductible and worked out an arrangement for the payment of the deductible. We told him we could pay $75 a week, except for one week, the week we had to pay our rent. But we would pay double the following week, and he agreed to this.
But when the week we were to skip, and something he agreed to, he started calling and harassing us, and even threatened to report us to the elders. We headed him off and talked to our elders about the situation, told them of the agreement, in case he called, which he did report us. The harassment got so bad that we borrowed an answering machine, turned off the ringer, and screened all of our calls. This guy was calling and threatening us quite a few times during the day and night. But being a "good" JW we didn't report his sorry @$$ to the authorities.

How Did The Elders Treat You?
by minimus indid you get along with them?
did you ever incur their wrath?
most jws want to be “friends “ with the elders, kind of like having a policeman that you know who might help you out if you are in need..

When I was still living at home with my parents (mom was a JW, dad had nothing to do with it), once there was this one elder to got on to me about something, don't recall what it was, but my mother saw what had happened (I was not baptized at the time, and only around 7). Under no uncertain terms does anyone get onto her children about anything, if they have a problem with her kids they were to go to her about it, then she would deal with it if need be My mother didn't take flack from anyone, elders included.
That was the only time I remembered having any issues with the elders, but then again I was not one to cause waves.

Welcome Back OND, it's good to see you. Same here, life gets busy. There has been a couple of times I too have not been on this forum for long periods of time. The first time I moved and lost all my information. The second time got a little smarter and wrote the information down somewhere that I wouldn't lose it, only to misplace it, then found it again. lol

I never said that I know too much about the bible, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that things are being removed.

When I went to the official JW site they said they did this because, and I'm quoting their words;
These verses actually do not belong in the Bible even though many older translations included them.
This is for example of one of the scriptures I have noticed they have completely omitted from their bible. This one is taken from Mark 16:9-20
That seems to be an awful lot that has been removed, and these are not the only changes. What are they really trying to hide?

Positive memories as a JW child..
by fulano init is based on gorbatsjov's good topic, but we all must have had nice, pleasant, romantic moments in our congregations.. i was always a dedicated boy, baptized at 14. we had our bookstudy at 8:00 pm and before that our fieldservice at 7:00 pm .
most of times, as a 14-16 years old boy i was the only one there with our conductor.
he was from aruba, immigrated to our cold and wet european country.

I remember I would fall asleep while out in field service.

Those pleasant memories were when I was 20.
Now before any are like what in the world? At the time I was a regular pioneer, did all those meetings, put in 12 hours a day, going from door to door, bible studies, ect., plus working 4 to 6 hours a night. I wanted to take a day off, but my mother said I had to do my duty as a regular pioneer and get out of the house. So when Thursday would roll around my body would say nope ain't gonna do it, and I would fall asleep in the car while out in field service.
If I were any smarter back then I wished I would have just lied on my time slip, it's not like they were paying me for my time.

Muslims and the Jehovah's Witnesses
by Tameria2001 infirst i want to say that i don't know very much about the muslims, and what i am going to say is not attacking anyone, but instead, it was something that was said to me by a muslim man a few years back.. back in 2004 my husband and i found ourselves in a homeless situation.
his job had ended because the plant that he was working at, had shut down, and was sent off to china.
at the time our two sons were still very young, so we ended up staying at a couple of different homeless shelters until my husband could find another job, which took a total of three months before he found a new job, in a new state.

@OneEyedJoe I believe he was talking about the conception about where their god(s) would destroy the vast majority. At least that was the impression I got.
The person who was responsible for cooking was a very spiteful person who tried on a few times to get my husband kicked out of the shelter, making up complete lies about things. One thing that bacon does not improve the flavor of was desserts, and he would add it to that as well, and it wasn't very tasty. I recall once they had served up was banana pudding, you know the dish that has the bananas, wafers, and pudding as the ingredients. It was also spiked with bits of bacon.

First I want to say that I don't know very much about the Muslims, and what I am going to say is not attacking anyone, but instead, it was something that was said to me by a Muslim man a few years back.
At this point in time, we had been out of the JW organization for three years.
The second place we stayed in was the Salvation Army Shelter, where my husband and I met a man who also came there. His situation was he was on his way back to the country he was going to be living at. There were some legal issues he was dealing with and had to stay in the States until a certain date, then he could leave. He was not born as a Muslim but had converted a few years prior. My husband is a very sociable person, it doesn't matter what your background is; if he like you, then you have a new friend. He was like that even when he was a JW, although being a JW was never important to him. His parents became JWs because they fell for the 1975 lie. I'm not even sure why he ever got baptized, maybe peer-pressure.
As we got to know this man, he told us both his Muslim name and his "Christian" name. His Muslim name was just too hard for me to pronounce, so we asked if we could call him by his original name, which was fine with him. The original name that he had once gone by was Terry. We found we had common ground when he learned where we had come from before, and it was the same college town that he had attended the university for four years. His interest really popped up when he learned that we (my husband and I) were former Jehovah's Witnesses. He had actually studied with the JWs and came very close to converting to the JWs, but instead, he decided to become a Muslim. He said when he did that and informed his family, they had all disowned him. He said his family hates the Muslims with a passion and when he converted that was the last time he and they spoke, with a few not to kind of words thrown at him. Still even more common ground that we were standing on.
The thing my husband picked up on was how badly he was being treated at this shelter, was beyond reprehensible. For any who don't already know, but one thing Muslims don't eat or touch is pork. At this shelter, those people would purposely put pork in everything, even dishes that don't call for it. Their food was horrible as it was anyways. So what we would do, were take him to other places so he could eat a meal without it being contaminated. If we had the money we would pay for his meals.
This went on for about a month and a half, and it was about time for us to go our separate ways, he to his new home, and us to ours. It was so exciting to know I was getting ready to be back into my own home. :) On the next to last day, we were together at that shelter, I had to take him to a few places, mainly to get his bus ticket out of there, and a couple of other places. During the course of the day, we stopped at a place to eat, and that was where we had this conversation. My husband was working, and we needed to also kill some time before it was time to pick him up from his job.
While eating we both got to talking and had quite a bit of discussion about religion, Christianity, Muslims, and the JWs. It all started with him quoting the scripture that talks about not eating with an unbeliever or something like that. I can't recall exactly what it says. But I remember telling him that I was in a point in my life that I don't hold a person's faith against them. To me what is important is people and that the problem with things is because of religion, and how it divides people, makes people hate each other simply because someone chooses a different faith than the other. This he fully understood, because of his own family experience. Finally, after talking for a while, we got on to the subject of the JWs, and how he came very close to becoming one. But one thing he was also doing was while studying with the witnesses he was also studying with the Muslims as well. I forgot what he told me, but he did tell me what was the deciding factor on him choosing the Muslims instead. Then he said something to me, and I don't think I will ever forget his words as long as I live, now mind you, these are not my words, but what he said.
"When we (talking about the Muslims) take over the world, the Jehovah's Witnesses will be very easy to convert over, because there are only two things that separate us." Don't remember the first part, but the second part he said, "Their Jehovah, and our Allah is the same being." He said they have more in common than most people realize.
