Why Does The Watchtower Dis-fellowshiping For Smoking and Not Gluttony and Alcoholism?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inhealth care studies are showing obese body weight index is worse than smoking "death sticks", so how is the tower going to address their growing problem of overweight elders and elderettes?
if a organization is able to disfellowship a member for smoking, why not do the same with other vices and crutches their people use to hide stress, emotional disorders and depression?
employers are asking for a bmi test a their potential employees to create a diet to get healthy.

I heard Jehovah's Witnesses were the first ones on the scene in Boston providing assistance.
by Theocratic Sedition inyou know those articles from the wt are coming, along with emails from jw friends and family.
all the shameless self-attaboys, and fictitious observations by non-jws remarking on how jws provided the most and best assistance to the victims..

THE REAL REASON WHY THE WATCHTOWER NEVER WRITES ABOUT ISLAM OR MUSLIMS IS FEAR!
by ÁrbolesdeArabia infor a religion that claims to be "fearless and bold" the watchtower has avoided writing about islam and muslim practices and how they are part of babylon the great.
the attacks on christendom are not a bold move because the "tower" and "gb" know the christian church is not going to send a suicide bomber into a kingdom or district convention.
it's not fair to christendom to receive all the hate speech from the "leaning tower of brooklyn", why don't they write the truth about islam?

In Moslem countries, there is a death penalty for converting to Christianity (or any other faith, including some we would name Moslem as well), and likewise for preaching Christianity to a Moslem. So the moment they start going d-t-d, the ones so doing would be killed or if lucky violently chased from town and country. And the ones preached to, would be treated by others with a high degree of suspicion. Some years ago, a couple of lines in a KM warned JWs against sending literature or tracts to random addresses in Turkey, because this was creating problems for the ones receiving them. Likewise, in some countries, JWs on holiday are asked NOT to try to visit lokal JWs, because this draws the attention of others to that visit and to those local people, and creates problems for them.
I have some Arab friends, and they were witnessed to because they already belonged to Christendom, and so what they did or did not do, was of no interest to the authorities. They told me, the only possibility for someone wanting to change from Islam to Christendom/-ity is to move to Lebanon, because that is a liberal country.
So I don't think it is about being cowardly, it is about trying to keep people alive when surrounded by bloodthirsty people. No matter what part of Christendom/-ity, they find it as close as you can get to impossible to preach to a Moslem. You have to be veeery careful, hence the careful wording of the WT brochures.

Canada Zone Visit - April 2013
by Richard_I injust got word of a zone visit for canada in april 2013, think it was april 8 to 14. sounds like its just 2 members of the u.s. branch comittee, no gb.
however, they plan on showing a talk on april 13/14 to all congregations in canada, not just a select few as has always been the case.. it'll be the same old stuff, but maybe this is why they the watchtower is purchasing all those projectors, like that "confidential" document mentions?
to broadcast things like this in all congregations?.

Strange summing up of the meeting by Richard_I, since he seems bent on telling that he either has forgotten what some of the talks were about, or in case of the others found them so ridiculous that he more or less won't tell .................................
Wouldn't hurt to be a bit more specific.

There are baptisms at the SAD, it is a one day convention and so has it.
As for the zone visit meeting, it in general is televised to all the congregations in the country, so it is not something restricted to only a few. Not far from me now, it will be held at a stadium with thousands being present, and it will be televised to thousands more.

Anti-climax - the NK rocket appears to have failed.
by fulltimestudent inthe uk independent reports that a nk rocked fired last night appears to have failed a short time after firing.
they cited chinese and us reports of the failure.. quote:.
north korea's widely anticipated and controversial launch of its long-range rocket was said by the us to have failed last night, with china reporting the rocket had been seen falling into the sea after taking off.. news of the rocket being fired was announced by kim min-seok, a spokesman for south korea's defence ministry, who told reporters in a nationally televised news conference that it was launched at 7.39am local time, though there was no word from pyongyang about the launch.. the united nations security council said it would discuss the launch at 1pm bst today.. the launch had long been expected but its timing came as something of a surprise as fierce winds whipping across the korean peninsula had apparently forced pyongyang to delay.. unquote.

Not unstable at all. The NKs are only shouting loudly in order to get aid. If they are met with a tiny bit of respect and negotiation ends in "if you scrap your plans, you'll get rice and petrol" then it all cools down - until the next US/SK military drill.
But not unstable - Kim III has nothing. Even the rockets are empty plywood things covered with aluminium sheets. If you watch closely at the ones shown in parades, you will notice they are dissimilar from each other, have small bumps etc - and would not last many seconds if tried to be launched.

AUSTRALIA | Jehovah's Witnesses and Watchtower Society Appear Before Child Abuse Inquiry | Thursday 11 April, 2013
by jwleaks injehovah's witnesses say it is not their responsibility to report child sex abuse to police unless mandatory reporting legislation is in place.. a victorian inquiry on thursday heard that when a jehovah's witness leader hears allegations of abuse they are directed immediately to contact the society's legal department to check their obligations under state law.. jehovah's witness legal counsel rachel van witsen said elders were not expected to know their legal obligations.. "this is done to ensure elders fully comply with any legal requirements that may be applicable in the state in which they reside," she said.. "in victoria if there was mandatory reporting the immediate advice would be to report that immediately.".
the society's director terrence o'brien said the decision to take the allegations to police lay with the victim.. "without mandatory reporting we don't feel that as ministers of religion that's our obligation to do that," mr o'brien said.. however, the organisation would encourage the victim to report it and would co-operate fully with police, he said.. ms van witsen said elders would make an exception if they felt the child was threatened.. "we would report that to appropriate authorities," she told the inquiry.. "we're about stopping child abuse.".
two ministers have been removed from the society for child sex abuse in 40 years of records, the parliamentary inquiry heard.. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/04/11/20/59/jehovah-s-witnesses-stay-in-line-on-abuse.

Your own mortality, how do you cope with it?
by CookieMonster ini've been a lurker here and an inactive jw for a number of years.
i've always had some annoying doubts but brushed it aside but over the last few years i've had time to "think" away from the wt.
perhaps there is no paradise, maybe no god and this life is all there is.
