  Worldly holidays

  if they announce anything any more ( my hall doesnt even announce funerals, only judicial stuff and letters from mom) they say something like: "tomorrow is a worldly holiday so..... ".

  we all know it is christmas or whatever.

  and most of us do have a day off, ( needed) the smart ones who are able will work for the double time and fewer bosses around.

  As I said on another thread I enjoyed Xmas because at work nobody else wanted to do it ,penalty rates and all that ,thanks workmates .

  Should't they cancel their meeting tonight?

  i find it kind of amusing that as worldly people who pass by a kh and know nothing of jw's tonight will think that the jw's are having a christmas eve service.

  many churches have a number of services tonight; children's program, family/christmas eve service and maybe a midnight candlelight service.. you know how some jw's won't even wear red between nov & dec lest anybody think they are celebrating the holidays?

  well then, shouldn't they cancel tonight's meeting so nobody thinks they are doing their own christmas eve service?

  I see your point carla and i also see bluesBrothers point .Both are valid points knowing the JW religion speak out of both sides of their mouth.

  As a JW Xmas and Easter were good times for me in my employment as nobody else wanted to work during those periods but good old smiddy was always eager to snap it up penalty rates and all that .

  Besides at Xmas they always put on a feast for lunch.When I was wished a merry xmas I would always say "the best to you" .It may have been hypocritical but hey I was a JW ,what`s new.

  Where do members of the Governing Body and their wives Live ? Not their actual addresses of course. however ?..........

  i`m just curious about the lifestyle they themselves are enjoying compared to the millions of followers they have in the jw religion.do any of the gb members have private homes that they own and live in ?

  or do they and their wives live in a communal arrangement .?

  if they do have private homes they own and live in what type of suburb/area do they live in ?

  And I was told before I converted that everybody was treated the same no one was treated any better than anyone else .the person on the platform giving the talk sat down beside you after finishing his talk and was treated no differently.

  Child sexual abuse suspect arrested in T.O.

  a 69-year-old thousand oaks man facing multiple sexual abuse charges by the ventura county district attorney’s office was arrested last week, authorities said.. steven skyler abbott was arrested dec. 6 after months of investigation into the reported sexual abuse of two thousand oaks girls, according to the ventura county sheriff’s office.

  in november, the ventura county district attorney’s office filed multiple felony sexual abuse charges against abbott, including two counts of continuous sexual abuse, one count of lewd acts upon a child and one count of forcible lewd acts upon a child.. he is also facing multiple felony enhancements and special allegations related to his charges.. the investigation began in september, when the sheriff’s agency received a report of suspected child crimes.. a 16-year-old victim alleged that she was sexually abused by abbott when she was between the ages of 5 and 11, sheriff’s officials said.. sexual assault unit detectives subsequently identified a second, 24-year-old victim who reported that abbott had abused her when she was between the ages of 3 and 7, authorities said.. the sheriff’s agency said the victims and their families had come into contact with abbott through the kingdom hall of jehovah’s witnesses in newbury park.. investigators submitted their findings to prosecutors, who filed felony sexual abuse charges against abbot on nov. 16, officials said.. on nov. 28, an arrest warrant was issued for abbott.. the suspect was eventually arrested at his home on dec. 6 and booked into ventura county jail.

  The JWs actively participate in Prison Visitation programs. From what I remember from reading another thread about prison visits, the consensus is that it is primarily pedophiles who are attracted to the JW Bibble studies inside prison. And, I have read about some of those pedophiles being "sponsored" of sorts by congregations under their release conditions.

  ???

  This may very well be true in other parts of the world but here in Australia in my experience nothing could be further from the truth .

  I have had occassion to visit an incarcerated friend for an unrelated offence to the subject in hand and have met a couple of Elders who engaged in prison visitations in two states, Vict,and Qld.

  Neither of them identified themselves as Jw`s to the prison officials doing prison visitations.

  And they only went in to see brothers or sisters in prison during normal visiting hours, so they could never see anybody else in those visits.

  On the other hand members of the Catholic and Protestant religions identified themselves with prison officials and they could come and go as the need arose anytime of the day.

  And visit as many prisoners as they liked that would see them .

  Not so the JW`s.

  That was a big eye opener for me back then and I`m talking about 30-40 years ago.

  hi i haven't posted for a while but i have a question and would appreciate any advice offered.

  i left the cult 2 years ago and i'm so happy now.

  i struggled at first and with the help of the lovely men and women on here i got stronger and started to find myself and ive grown as a person (i'm not being told who i am or who i should be anymore).

  I read somewhere on here I think about a child who came home to his /her non JW parent and said after a stay with the JW parent that they wanted to become a JW.

  OK the non JW parent said ,but you do know don`t you that if you do become one you wont be allowed to celebrate or recieve presents at Xmas, and you wont be allowed to celebrate B/days and recieve presents ,and that goes for Easter also because they are all forbidden by Jehovah`s Witnesses .

  The child never asked to become one again .

Obviously not a slum area,but maybe an up market area.?

  Many if not most of the rank & file JW`s worldwide live in poor conditions ,3rd world nations and even in first world nations many are on social security ,aged pensions and what not.

  Also do any of them own a holiday house where they can chill out when the stress gets too high ?

  I would love to know this ,it could be a real eye opener .
