i have been lurking here for about a month or two.
it is really awesome to read so many similar experiences.. for example, when i was still 'in' i wondered if i was the only one in the hall that really hated the meetings.

Checklists for High-Control Groups/Cults
by Lady Lee inchecklist of characteristics.
deception lies at the core of mind-manipulating and high-demand ("cultic") groups and programs.
many members and supporters of these groups/movements are not fully aware of the extent to which they have been abused and exploited.

Sounds like he's been a great friend, but you need to slow down. There's no harm in friends going to the movies, but giving him your heart doesn't sound a good idea at this time.

Excellent find Cedars, I watched all the series except number 5 as it's blocked in the UK. Thank you for pointing it out. It's amazing the similarities there are between JW and LDS.

Just wanted you to know, none of you are intriguing. Rather, you're all quite repulsive.
by Theocratic Sedition innot saying that's my personal opinion, but this week's congregation bible study asks the viewpoint question, "would apostate literature or internet sites intrigue you or repulse you?
"- jeremiah book, page 70, para 7. .
gotta love it.. i guess apostate sites are like crime scenes.

Possibly heard a Conscious Class public talk.
by lostinnj83 ini can't be certain but i found yesterdays public talk to be interesting.
it was on salvation.
the speaker read many scriptures from the bible and didn't mention anything about the organization being necessary for salvation, just jehovah and jesus.. i actually walked out feeling like i had learned something.. perhaps, he wasn't of the conscious class but in the very least he gave a nice non brainwashed message.. does anyone else think they have heard a conscious class talk given from the platform?.

Quite possibly, I used to give talks like that

The ten most embarrassing scriptures for Jehovah's Witnesses
by slimboyfat in1. mark 7:15 "there is nothing from outside a man that passes into him that can defile him; but the things that issue forth out of a man are the things that defile a man.. so how can eating black pudding or having a blood transfusion be a sin?.
2. roman 14:5 one [man] judges one day as above another; another [man] judges one day as others; let each one be convinced in his own mind.
so how come they say birthdays and festivals are a sin?.
